Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 17

Islaamic Studies

Seerah She completed the Part 2 of the Seerah Worksheet. We made the Seerah Trail Puzzle to make it easy for her to do the map marking on the worksheet and also to see the relevance.

Seerah - We learnt about the Miracles of the Prophet and recorded them on the notebook.

English

Jolly Phonics - I went through the words from Jolly Phonics Hand Book and asked Maimoonah to read and identify the sounds and used this book to test her out. Insha Allaah will practice with more letter sounds and worksheets as we go on. She actually does not use the phonics for reading but now she has understood how words are formed through letter sounds.

Grammar - Possessive Adjectives. All activities from Little Grammar Workbook

Comprehension - Junior English 1 Comprehension Passage.

Science/Social Studies

Transport, Fuel, Wheels and Fast and slow - This was also almost a revision. We did the activities on the Smart Start Science Work Book.

Then we printed this out from here and I read the Story in Arabic showing her the letters and sounds and she read in English. Then gave her a construction paper, the pictures and asked her to decorate a cover for the book and paste the pictures according to the text in each page. This was the end result.

Then we also had a sticker book in Arabic. She pasted some of the stickers and lost interest. Can use it later Insha Allaah.

We used the Arabic First book on Transport and sis Umm An Nu'man's Qaamoos to recap all the names in Arabic for the vehicles.

We also have a nice book with detailed History of Transportation. Maimoonah read randomly form here and there.

Maths

Continuing with >,< I gave her some additional worksheets for practice. Also after that I asked her to write some equations using >, < and some equations I dictated and she wrote on the book. We also did some subtraction practise.

Arabic

Qur'aan Centre -Other than the Transport theme related Arabic work, we started Qura'aan center Activities for Soorah Falaq. Insha Allaah will continue the same next week too.

Writing - She wrote number five here.

Conversation - We did the next part of the conversation, welcoming and asking basic questions.

Islaamic Studies

Seerah - We revised our Note Book from the beginning till what we have learnt so far. Spoke about certain things and had a nice discussion
Worksheet - Maimoonah has heard many kids talking about Exams so she wanted me to give her a big Exam paper so that she too can do exams. So I made this paper for her on Seerah and she really enjoyed it. We did Part 1 this week and will do the next part next week Insha Allaah. She looked at the books, found the spellings for certain words that she did not know and completed all. If you want you can download this file here and use it according to your child's level Insha Allaah.(if you find any mistakes please do inform me)

Fiqh - Salaah. We are still learning the Adhkaar for Salaah, going a bit slow Insha Allaah

English Language

Jolly Phonics - Revising the letter sounds. Will be doing more activities next week Insha Allaah
Grammar - Pronouns

Comprehension - She did the next Junior English Passage for comprehension.

Writing - She has been writing many letters and small books to her relations every now and then and its too much for me to put pics of all of them. Insha Allaah will select few and upload next week. She has been typing well too as her spellings have improved a lot masha Allaah. I have a session for her once every week where she meddles with MS Word. Now she knows to change fonts, type, insert pics and clip art and save the file. All explored on her own. She will look at books sometimes and type or type her own story and insert pics accordingly. She has also learnt how to search for pics that she wants by typing and searching on clipart. : ) so ICT skills are growing too very informally.
Reading - She is learning new words and still reading. She has Story Time with our sister Umm Sara, via skype every Tuesdays and she just waits for Tuesdays now. May Allaah reward sis Umm Sara and her kids for taking the time to read to Maimoonah. She reads the books that she has chosen and Sara and Maimoonah read to each other what they have chosen.

Science

Clothes - This was almost a revision. She did the activities on the Smart Start Science Book. Then I also gave her some old magazines and asked her to cut and paste some clothes. ( I remember me doing all this for her last year and she has grown now to do all this by herself this year masha Allaah!)

From where does clothes come. Spoke about it and explained some of the process. She did the activities on the work book.

Mirror- This was fun and she liked it a lot. We experimented with the mirror how the writings look and the shapes look.

Maths

Alhamdulillaah so far MEP is going well. This week we made the number ladder, taught her to count one number loud and the other to whisper then to count backwards by looking and without looking, She caught it well.

Arabic

Qur'aan Centre - We completed learning Soorah Ikhlaas and did the activities. Alhamdulilaah this is working well with Maimoonah and May Allaah reward sis Umm An Nu'man for her hard work and and sis Umm Sara for encouraging me to try this. It is tremendously making things easy for me. Alhamdulillaah. Maimoonah can read all the words and she could do the matching activity after reading independently. We also played a game with words and practised more on this.

Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 15

We are pretty much going slow on Week 15 and Week 16 mainly due to very cold weather and Maimoonah was down with cold and needed some rest, so we took some days off hence activities are less, Qadarallaah Masha Allaah!

Islaamic Studies

Seerah - We read the following parts from the Sealed Nectar and wrote down on our Book.

We spoke about the incident that the Messenger of Allaah wanted to throw himself from a Mountain after he received the revelation and every time he wanted to do that he saw Jibreel alahissalaam on the horizon and Allaah protected him from doing so. Maimoonah was amazed to know that. We also spoke about the goodness of Khadeejah radhiyallaahu anha. And also about the first sahabahs to accepted the Message.

She also stuck the stickers on the seerah timeline.

Insha Allaah we will be doing the follow up activities this week.

English Language

Jolly Phonics - We reviewed some letter sounds. Insha Allaah we will do more later
Grammar - Animal Movements. I did not have the Little Grammar Reader on this, so I wrote some sentences on the board to make it easy for her and then she did the activities in the Workbook.

Social Studies
Continents and Nations - Europe and Review

Maths
MEP - This week we learnt the greater than less than and equal to concepts. I did not do anything fancy to teach this as I thought first I will try just telling and see if she can catch the concept. I just wrote all the signs and said this is what it means. And she caught it masha Allaah. She did the MEP activities. One particular one where she has to write the signs many time, she got confused and I left it.

Then I gave few equations for her to do and she was able to do masha Allaah!

Arabic

We could not do all what we planned, but we did start Alhamdulilaah. We started Quraan Center activities but will continue next week too.

Then we almost finsihed the Conversation part. She is able to say all this in Arabic now.

Then she also started with the writing and write this, she needed more help with joining and writing but she is catching up Insha Allaah!

Continents and Nations - Europe & Review

Continuing with our Continents and Nations study this week we learnt about Europe, our final continent to finish the topic.

We went through the Atlas and learnt few facts about Europe

That it is a smallest Continent (The Continent Book that we used says Australia is the smallest Continent but the Altas says it is Europe , Allaahu Al'am , it was Maimoonah who read and said that there is a conflict, she found many conflict info in different atlas and encyclopaedias even with the flags : )
The Scandinavian Countries and why they are called so
The Lower Countries
Some information about some of the European Countries. etc etc

Using the World Fact Book she filled in the information about the countries she selected to write about and she coloured the flags.

We learnt a little bit more about Spain as it was ruled by Muslims before.

I used this link and read and told her the story of how a very young boy called Tariq bin Ziyaad captured Spain and how it was known before as Andalusia, she was really interested also was sad to know that it is not a Muslim Country now. Any way she did this small write up about Spain after listening to me. She asked me to draw the Spain Map. She coloured and pasted and wrote this.

It says:" Muslims ruled Spain for 600 years.
A brave boy called Tariq bin Ziyad captured Spain.
Muslims built Mosques in Spain.
You get olives in Spain.
Spain was called at that time Andalusia

Then she filled in the info here.

Pinned the flags for all the European countries. Many sisters have been asking me the brand name of this wooden map with flags and unfortunately I have no clue as I have no pack with me, but I googled and found the same product here. Hope this helps all of you who are interested, I got it for a much cheaper price though in the local store, not sure if the quality is the same : ), for me it looks somewhat same, Allaahu A'lam.

So that ends our Continents and Nations Study. We did a review. She completed this.

I asked few questions like which country is where and she was pretty ok masha Allaah!.

Then we also started learning conversations in Arabic and we had something to learn about which is connected to this Topic masha Allaah! All the continents and directions in Arabic! We had a pretty nice conversation, will update more on this when I post the summary Insha Allaah! For now here is what we learnt in Arabic, Maimoonah just loved the Arabic Terms for each Continent and is able to tell all of them in Arabic including, "From where are you"?, What is your Country?, I am from..., My country is...., My Country is in Asia, etc etc...

Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 14

Islaamic Studies
We read about how things were before the Prophethood. Discussed many things using the Raheeq Al Makhtoom. We did not write down yet Insha Allaah we will do it next week. Maimoonah was doing lot of reading on Seerah this week and we were only talking. Did not do any activities as such.

We are continuing with Salaah on fiqh and learning the adhkaar still using the Learning Roots Cards.

English Language

Jolly Phonics - We did the following letter sounds and with this she has finished all the letter sounds. From next week we will be doing reviews and exercises Insha Allaah!

Grammar - We did Names of Places this week. Some of the places were new to her like the "Cinema", needed to explain to her what it is all about!!! She refused to read that page on her Little Grammar Book!!!!

Comprehension - This week we did a poem from Junior English. This time she needed a little help in explaining unlike the previous weeks.

Continents - Australia

Continuing our study on Continents and Nations this week we finished Australia.

Alhamdulillaah, now Maimoonah does not get confused with the Continents : ) So we read the Atlas and all about Australia and New Zealand. We learnt a few facts about Australia along with reading about the Native people of this Continent.

Australia is the smallest continent
Australia has the many of the poisonous animals found in the world
Koalas are the only animal who could eat from the Australian gum trees.
Kangaroos can survive without water for months
New Zealand is known for many of the water sports.
Beef and diary products mostly come from Australia and New Zealand. Etc etc

Then we chose three countries, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea (some books say that Papua New Guinea does not belong to the continent Australia and some places said it does, any way I just included this as well as I explained to her they are known as Pacific Islands, Allaah knows best)

She used the World Fact Book and filled in all the details. Also she filled the details here.

Masha Allaah by doing this she has improved her spelling so much. I did not know she could spell everything to write on her own without looking at the book. I think this kind of learning is much better than sitting and dictating to write some dictation words. I tried this once but I knew she was learning much more buy doing her regular activities and gave up having spelling lessons : )

She pinned the flag for Australia on her Wooden map!

Then she got all interested in Kangaroos. She wanted to know more. We went onto the net and found some facts about the Kangaroos and she chose some facts and wanted to write a small note on Kangaroos. Masha Allaah again very much independently. (She saw "Kangaroo Shop" written on a web page and insisted she wants to write that too, so I said ok : )

Then we used this template and did dot painting a Kangaroo. I showed her and she played around with paints.

Insha Allaah one more to go on Continents and we are done with it for this year.

Sewing Saturdays - Needle Book!

Alhamdulillaah, a dear sister and her kids from another part of the world sent Maimoonah a whole heap of sewing stuff. May Allaah reward them immensely for their generosity and kind gesture. Aameen. In fact the sister sent us all the materials we were looking for for various projects we wanted to do. You know who you are sister, please note that you and your kids have indeed brighten up our journey! And all this means so much for us. Love all of you for the sake of Allaah!

So now that we got the much needed felt materiel, we resumed our Sewing activity this Saturday. We chose to make a Needle Book to keep all the needles in tact. We got the instructions from here.

So Maimoonah chose the colours for this Project. Taught her how to measure and mark the size on the materiel. Then I cut and these are the two pieces of the felt material we would use for the Book.

We took a piece of ribbon kept it on top of one piece and kept the other piece of the felt materiel over it and pinned.

Then we used blanket stitch and stitched all the edges. I did two sides and Maimoonah did the remaining two sides.

Then the dear sister also sent us beautiful buttons. Maimoonah chose one of them and stitched here. Now the she already knew how to stitch buttons, she was pretty confident to do it.

Then we pinned all our needles and this is our final product!

Arabic - Something More!

I feel I am not doing enough for Arabic with Maimoonah comparing to other subjects. And truly, I really feel bad about it. We were looking for a native Arabic teacher but Qadarallaah Masha Allaah we could not get someone till now and Insha Allaah will keep looking.

So until then I thought I will just include some interesting various activities each week for Maimoonah to improve her Arabic as well as mine. : )

Alhamdulillaah a dear sister sent me some links to help learn and teach Arabic and I would like to share what we are hoping to do from next week onwards Insha Allaah!

Madeenah Arabic Reader

Insha Allaah we will continue with our Madeenah Arabic Reader Book 1. But I will also use this website to make it more interactive and interesting.

Arabic Reading
Will continue with the Iqra Books. I have few Arabic Story Books. I will use them as well as these books.(Word of caution! Please chose what is Islamically appropriate from this selection. Insha Allaah). Some of these books are translated by the sister and you can view it here.

Arabic Vocabulary
The same site here has flash cards for Arabic vocabulary with sound and image. So we will be using each menu topic for each week Insha Allaah. We will also be using this for interactive Vocabulary. Please do not leave your kids unattended on this site as there are many unislamic stuff out there. We can use one chapter per week Insha Allaah. We will also use ArabicFirst Books for vocabulary and reading.

Arabic Writing
There are a lot of downloadable worksheets for learning to write individual letters, but I was looking for words and found this. So Insha Allaah along with Gateway For Arabic book that we are using now we would use this new one for learning to write Insha Allaah!.

Qur'aan Centre Activities

Alhamdulillaah our dear sister Umm An Nu'man has done us a big favour by putting out these cute beneficial Qur'aan Centre Work Books for each Soorah. So far you get for Soorah Faatihah, Soorah Ikhlaas, Soorah Falaq and Soorah Naas. You get many activities to do with kids and I am sure all of us will enjoy. So Insha Allaah we will start doing this each week too. Along with this I will be using the Learning Roots Word Flow as well.

Arabic Conversation
We will use this for Conversation Insha Allaah.

Listening to Arabic and English Audio
This is mainly for me but will keep Maimoonah next to me Insha Allaah. A sister said that she improved her Arabic a lot by listening to Arabic English audio's mainly of our Noble Brother Abu Talha Dawud Burbank raheemahullaah. So I decided to make sometime at least once or twice each week to listen to his audio. And since I am planning to teach Usooluth Thalaathah next year for Islaamic Studies for Maimoonah I thought we will start with the Explanation of Usooluth Thalaathah audios available here. You can download the Arabic Text of the Explanation of Usooluth Thalaathah here and follow the audio on http://ittibaa.com/. Alhamdulillaah for each class you get the transcription for downloading too. May Allaah reward the brothers and sisters for their efforts.

So this is what I have planned for Arabic from next week Insha Allaah. I ask Allaah to enable me to do all of this and give us success with the language of the Qur'aan and I ask Allaah to make it easy for us to learn to His sake alone. Aameen.

Seerah - The Topics Covered this week were; Bahirah the Monk, The Tribal wars, Al Fudoul, Early Job, Marraige to Khadeejah and The Arbitration.
We read and spoke about each event and recorded in point form.
Then She answered some of the questions.
Maimoonah related the stories to me and she reads the point that I have written every now and then.

Fiqh - We continued Salaah. This week Maimoonah learnt the Adhkaar said while in Sajda and Ruku. We used the Learning Roots cards for this

English Language

Grammar - Learnt about "Adverbs". She read the Little Grammar book and complted all the activities on the work book.

We did not do Jolly Phonics this week due to no ink Insha Allaah next week.

Continents and Nations Study - South America

We continued our study on Continents and Nations and this week we had to do South America and some South American Countries.

Since we had two weeks breaks we started all over again. I just asked Maimoonah some random questions with regard to Continents and Countries that we have covered so far. Then I realised she was getting a bit confused with Countries and Continents, like if I ask her in Which continent is Qatar she said Saudi Arabia. So I decided to recap everything all over again.

First we used this Continent Puzzle. Both of completed the puzzle as it was not easy for her to do it all alone.

Then I explained that Allaah created the earth and this is how it looks. Some Part of it is land and the other part water. So I showed her the land area and the water area on the map and said the land area is called Continents and the water Area is called Oceans. I explained to her Allaah has created the parts of the land far away from each other thus man has named the land that are in different places with names such as "Africa, Asia etc etc" while pointing to each of them. And said they have named like this to identify each part of the land. Then I asked her how many continents are there and she said 7 and she named all of them. Then I showed her each continent and said that inside this big area of land you get countries with different names and all these countries are situated on this particular area of land which is a continent and told her some of the names of the countries she has learnt in each Continent. Then I reminded her about the Aayah on Nations and Tribes that we started our study with and Alhamdulillaah now she understood.

Then I also asked her to trace the world map, colour and show be all the continents. I asked her randomly some countries and she pointed to them on the map she drew and told me to which continent those countries belong to.

Then we read about South America. We learnt about the Andes Mountains, Amazon Forest, Angel Falls and many more. She coloured the map on her Continent Book.

We chose Brazil, Argentina and Peru for the countries and recorded the facts. This time I asked Maimoonah to look up for each Country on the World Fact Book and find out the facts and copy write. Masha Allaah she did a very good job which amazed me too. We read about each country and the food and stuff you get there.

Then she pinned the flag of the South American Countries on her wooden map.

I had this Book "Jungle Fever" with me and I thought this really fitted well for our Study.

We have read this many times before but now that we have studied about South America it made sense to her and a nice way to keep facts in mind. ( Imaan and Umm Khidr I guess this what it is to teach through living books???!! Correct me if I am wrong) This is a story of an Adventure of a Boy who goes to visit the Amazon Forest. The book is written as a Diary Format. I explained to Maimoonah that this is the Journal or a Diary that people record the day to day happenings.

Then I asked her to write on a piece of paper and show me how she would record for today if she had a journal. And here is what she wrote!

I played. I blew bubbles and burst them. I read Jungle Fever. I painted. (At the end it says:) I brought ummi a bouquet of flowers!

Then the story talks about some Amazon Facts the boy has recorded. So this was a very nice thing to know about South American Amazon Forests. Then he describes that they were living in a small Village in Brazil during this trip and while he went to explore the forest he helps a native American man who was trapped under a fallen tree and he explains how the people of that man's tribe treated his broken leg through herbs and so on. And it talks about the language they spoke which the boy did not understand. Then she told me that people in Brazil Speak Portuguese as she wrote this before : )

Also the boy talks about a good luck charm he carries always on his rucksack. Now I had explained this to her before that believing in these kind of things are shirk and when she read this she started covering that part. I reminded her with the example of Hudhaifah bin Yamaan radhiyallu anhu that he always asked the Messenger of Allaah about the bad so that he can keep away from it. She was shocked. Alhamdulillaah I remembered this at this time. As I see now she is exposed to reading many things and within her she fears to even see an unislamic word on the book. And I know she goes through unnecessary stress and we spoke to her more and said that we must try to avoid these things but we read so that we know we should keep away from these things and knowledge about things that are Haraam is necessary.

So we continued with the story book. We shared reading this book :) Then at the end of the book there were some activities to do and we completed.

Finally to some it up we did a Forest Collage idea taken from here. We did not print out anything as no ink lol! So I drew the trunk and bush of the tree and Maimoonah cut. Then she used that as a stencil and drew more trunks and bushes. She cut them precisely Masha Allaah. We used construction paper and clothe. I cut the material as she refused to do so. Then we painted the trunks and made this collage!

Masha Allaah this was a great experience as I can see Maimoonah getting more involved and able to do many things now unlike 1 year ago where her motor skills were not developed. So this is how it looks.

Who thought a simple geography lesson would include not only geography but English Language, writing, reading, Islaamic Studies, History and Art and Crafts too.... Inalhamdulillaah for guiding us and indeed this a ni'mah of home schooling!

I think more than any other continent Maimoonah would remember more of South America so far!!!!

Little things during our Break!

Alhamdulillaah we had a good 2 weeks break and now back to business again! We did not go out that much as I was so lazy to get out of bed lol! Winter is making me just cover and sleep. Any way during this break I noticed a small behavioural change in Maimoonah. She was kind of not really listening and being playful from dawn till night lol! I guess a growing phase, it was so difficult for her to do one thing without being what shall I say may be too playful which actually annoys. And she also showed some frustration I think I know why but still it was unusual for her to be like this.

Any way after much dua she is much better now and almost normal Innalhamdalillaah! Please do make Ruqya for Sihr, sisters for yourselves and your kids especially bloggers Insha Allaah. Its a reminder for myself first and for my sisters.

Some Dishes!

This post is especially for Umm Suhailah, Umm Sara, Imaan and Umm Khidr and for all the others as well : )

Alhamdulillaah I am so glad I have got to know many sisters from all over the world through the blog and also have got to know some of their lifestyles, traditions and cultures and most importantly their traditional food. And the above sisters have been asking me to share our traditional dishes. So I managed to click some pictures of our day to day dishes. So here we go........

We are very much eastern and eastern food lovers and our lifestyle is Asian (of course we base everything to be upon the sunnah as much as we can Insha Allaah, I am talking about food and culture here). And I would not say that I take lot of care in eating healthy food, I know very bad of me, but my main point is that I do not spend lot of time in the kitchen and miss out other things like Ibaadah, homeschooling, reading etc etc. I would love to take great care in maintaining healthy food habits but I do not think I do enough at all. Also since our food is more Asian we eat a lot of vegetables and I always thought and think green vegetables makes you very healthy and give you the nutrients that you need Allaahu A'lam.

Any way now my husband is into lot of research about getting nutrients into our bodies that every food cannot give unless taken as supplements for example he says Omega 3 is very important and getting food with omega 3 is very difficult. Also he had done some research and now have told me that the oil I use for cooking should have variety so that different nutrients get into our bodies. He has got me variety of oil products with very less saturated fat but with additional ingredients like Omega 3. So I have started cooking according to his orders and he actually says food is tasting much nicer these days, Allaah knows best!!!

I have a variety of olive oil with basil, lemon, and chilli that I use for flavour and the rest are canola with Omega 3, sun flower oil and sesame oil.

Usually for lunch we have rice with a meat curry and either one or two vegetables cooked. Dinner we have the usual Pasta, Burgers sandwiches, toasts, spaghetti, roti, chappati and stuff. What I am going to basically talk about here is the lunch dishes Insha Allaah!.

Mixed Vegetables and Bones or meat Soup

Add bones or chicken or beef or lamb chops to a pan with tomatoes, onions and salt boil with water until tender (I actually pressure cook : )

Then add the vegetables to it and cook

Then add a little cinnamon powder, pepper and coriander leaves and the soup is ready!

This soup we eat with rice and also can be eaten with toast. I make this or the stew once a week and it is enjoyed by all!

Rice

I cook Bastmati rice sometimes Samba rice which is very small grains and sometimes red or brown rice. Basmati rice is the only rice freely available here as far as I know.

Beetroot Stir Fry

Most of the vegetables I stir fry as well as I cook. Stir fry has oil and cooking means I add coconut milk. Beet is something Maimoonah loves. Add some oil, onions, curry leaves, tomatoes and fry for a while then add a little chilly powder (Umm Suhailah you can avoid this : ), curry powder and the chopped beet (if you slice the beet very small and tiny it cooks soon and tasty too) mix together and stir fry until you want it cooked, making it a bit raw is good for health and is tasty too, then add salt and its ready!

I also do the same for beans, cabbage and carrot, ladies fingers, leeks, and green leaves like kangkung (leaves like spinach)

Drum Sticks/ Dhal/ Pumpkin

This is such a wonderful vegetable that we enjoy! Peel the drumsticks cut and boil with onions, green chilli and salt in water or coconut milk. Then heat a little oil and stir fry onions, curry leaves and mustard seeds and chilli powder then add the boiled drumstick and add a little coconut milk and done. I make Pumpkin and dhal the same way too. We usually eat dhal with roti, chappati or bread for dinner

Beef

I soak the beef for few minutes with vinegar and salt. Then add oil, ginger garlic paste, curry leaves, onions, tomatoes and stir fry for a liitle while, add chiili powder, curry powder 5 spices and mix well then add the beef and water and pressure cook for few minutes and the curry is done!

Mixed Fried Rice
This is something I do when I am in a hurry and for emergency! Cook the rice then add oil onion, curry leaves, tomatoes, carrot, ginger garlic paste, 5 spice powder beans in a pan and stir fry, add salt, prawns, left over beef or chicken or mutton or even sausages and mix together. Add pepper, curry powder, chilli powder and mix then add rice and mix and its done!

Prawns

Add oil, curry leaves, lot of onions, tomatoes, capsicum and garlic ginger paste and fry for while. Add soy sauce and oyster sauce and mix then add a little chilli and curry powder, 5 spice powder and salt. Mix and add the prawns. Cook until tender add a little chopped coriander leaves and you will get a dish like this.

Green Grams

This is our Friday Special Breakfast! Just boil the previously soaked green grams and eat with shredded coconut and may add some sugar!

Stew
Boil all vegetables and meat (chicken, mutton or beef) separately. Then add oil to a pan with onions, curry leaves, musturd seed, capsicum and fry for a while. Add curry powder, chilli powder and mix. Then add the boiled vegetables and the meat and mix. Add the stock that you boiled the vegetables and meat and let it cook for sometime. then add corn starch for thickness and its done. Again we eat this with rice for lunch or with bread or sometimes we use it as a filling for buns with butter.

Pasta
Most of the time I make pasta just like the fried rice and then add cheese just before serving. For the first time this week I baked it. I was so sacred to use the oven here which is not electric but gas. Any way managed to use it with the help of Abu Maimoonah and made this Lasagne pasta with ground beef and cheese lol! Yes it was both lasagne and pasta!

These are some of the dishes I made this week. Insha Allaah will share more traditional food when we get the opportunity to visit back home Insha Allaah!

‘No contagion, no pessimism, no Haammah and no Safar’

Khutbah by Shaykh Saalih/Aal Ash-Shaykh hafidhahullaah!

O believers in Allaah and His messenger! Fear Allaah and glorify Him as He deserves to be. Know that this life is nothing except a very short period of time, so act righteously herein. He who does so will have a great and pleasant consequence by the mercy and favour of Allaah and he who is neither conscious nor fearful of Allaah will not have a way out of his hardships and will have an evil end.

Servants of Allaah! Abu Hurayrah, May Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “No contagion, no pessimism, no Haammah and no Safar” (Bukhaari). The meaning of this Hadeeth is as follows: Haammah is a type of bird; the pre-Islamic Arabs used to think that whenever this bird landed on anyone’s house, somebody who lived in that house would definitely die. This is of course a type of superstition. As for Safar, this is another type of superstition; one group of Islamic scholars held the view that the pre-Islamic Arabs were highly superstitious regarding the month of Safar while another group held the view that Safar is in fact a worm which used to dwell in the bodies of some animals (as a disease) and that this disease was contagious.

In this Hadeeth the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam negated and refuted the prevalent belief of the disbelievers at that time. These false beliefs would affect the hearts of the people so greatly that it would weaken their reliance on Allaah and lead them to doubting Him and even attributing evil to Him. Also, these beliefs would lead people to attribute deficiencies to Allaah, either by them claiming that He has incapabilities or by them ascribing partners to Him in acts of worship, or in controlling destiny.

So the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was addressing all those who truly believe in Allaah and in His control over everything by saying: “No contagion, no pessimism, no Haammah and no Safar.” The words “No contagion” mean that contagion is not independently effective, because the Pre-Islamic Arabs used to believe that contagion was itself a characteristic of a disease and that it had no external control over it. They also believed that there was nothing that could prevent contagion from occurring and that nothing could eliminate it.

When the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said “No contagion.” he certainly did not mean that contagion itself does not exist, nor did he mean that diseases and sicknesses do not spread from one person to another due to them coming into close contact, rather, this is something that obviously occurs. However, what the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was doing was refuting the belief that the disbelievers had which was that if a sick person happened to come close enough to a healthy person, then sickness would definitely be passed onto the healthy person. The disbelievers used to believe that this transfer was beyond the control and will of Allaah and that it was bound to happen. Therefore, what the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was explaining was that sickness does not spread simply by mixing healthy people with sick ones, rather, it happens with the decree and command of Allaah; contagion may or may not occur because it is not necessarily the case that every contagious disease will spread from a sick person to a healthy one unless and until Allaah permits this to occur. If Allaah does not permit it to happen then it cannot and will not ever occur, because that is by the decree and command of Allaah.

Contagion is nothing but a means that will only have an effect if Allaah decrees for it to occur, it is not something that necessarily takes place. Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “A sick one should not go into the presence of a healthy one, nor should a healthy one go into the presence of a sick one.” (Muslim). He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said this regarding camels because allowing them to mix is a means of spreading disease among them. Therefore, in this Hadeeth, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam proves that contagion actually exists, but he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam only proved its existence as a means and not as an end.

This is exactly the same as saying, for example, that if a person were to do something that could result in his death, then by doing it, he would die – if Allaah decreed that to happen. It is also the same as saying, for example, that if a person were to eat and drink then he would satisfy his hunger and quench his thirst. In reality, these actions are nothing but means to an end that will only occur if Allaah has decreed it to do so.

Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “Run away from a person with leprosy as you would run away from a lion.” (Ahmad & Bukhaari). This is because mixing with such a person is a means of spreading the sickness from a person with leprosy to a healthy one. So this Hadeeth of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam explains that although these are nothing but means and that their effect will not take place without the decree of Allaah, we still have to exert our utmost efforts in avoiding these means that may result in disease, destruction or tribulations. Moreover, we must rely on Allaah in all cases.

This is why on one occasion the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam sat next to a man who had leprosy and ate with him from the same plate, he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam even put his hand in the same food that the man was eating from to prove to people that diseases spread only if Allaah wills for them to do so. He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam also did this to show that it is not a must that contagious sicknesses will spread and that it is only Allaah who gives the ability for these means to take effect. Then, after eating, he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “No contagion and no pessimism.”

He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “No pessimism” because during Jaahiliyyah, or the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, the disbelievers were extremely pessimistic about everything.Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, said that “Each one of us had this (i.e., pessimism), but Allaah replaced it with our reliance on Him.” (Abu Daawood & Tirmidhi). This saying means that at that time, the people’s hearts were full of pessimism. For example, people used to feel pessimism when they felt the wind blowing strongly, or if some of them intended to set out on a journey and subsequently saw something that they disliked, they would be sure that they would meet a calamity or even death during the forthcoming trip, so they would be overcome by pessimism.

However, a believer must completely rely on Allaah as Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “Allaah replaces pessimism with reliance on Him.” Pessimism is a false and futile concept; it has no effect in determining events because they are all under the control and decree of Allaah. This is why the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam used to hate pessimism and love optimism; for one who is always optimistic has a high opinion of his Lord, which the believer is commanded to have. As for pessimism, this leads a person into thinking evil of his Lord, which was the belief of the people during Jahiliyyah. Due to these reasons, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade us from being pessimistic by saying: “No pessimism.”

Then, he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said “No Haammah” which refers to the bird already mentioned which the disbelievers had false beliefs about. For example, they believed that a person who was murdered would have this bird in his grave screaming for revenge. They also thought that the Haammah bird contained the soul of a dead person and flew it between different neighbourhoods. There were countless other false beliefs which were prevalent at that time, so the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam had to refute and negate them because these beliefs were contrary to the sound creed that a Muslim is commanded to have. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam clarified the concept that everything occurs due to the decree and command of Allaah and nothing else.

Another falsehood which the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam wanted to eliminate from its roots was regarding the month of Safar. Many scholars are of the view that Safar was a month in which the pre-Islamic Arabs were particularly pessimistic. Therefore, when the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “No Safar”, this was an indication that he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam wanted to refute and negate all the false beliefs that the disbelievers used to harbour regarding that month. The disbelievers used to think that during the month of Safar, all problems, disasters, calamities and other evils would occur. Therefore they would avoid getting married in this month as they thought that such a union would be doomed; nobody would trade during this month as they thought that it would be fruitless; they also thought that all other endeavours during that month would end in problems, hardships and even death. These are the types of beliefs that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam countered due to their falsity.

Safar is just one of twelve months that Allaah has given us; nothing happens in this month except what Allaah has decreed to happen within it, Allaah did not specify a certain month of the year where all difficulties, hardships and calamities would afflict people. In fact, if one looks at history, he will discover that many conquests and victories occurred during the month of Safarfor the Muslims; it may be that some people are ignorant of this and therefore it becomes incumbent on us to pay attention to facts like these and convey them to the masses. By doing this we are going back to the fundamentals and bases of these false concepts and cutting them off from their roots. Therefore, in this particular case, we know that believing that Safar as an ‘unlucky’ month is a false and frivolous belief, both from the words of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and by practical experience of the fact that there has been a lot of goodness in this month throughout history. Therefore, all forms of pessimism regarding minutes, hours, days and months are negated by Islaam - our faith must be sound and distinct from that of the disbelievers.

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam exerted all possible efforts in explaining these concepts to us. He sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam made it clear that we need to purify our hearts from thinking evil of our Lord or being pessimistic regarding places, times or dates. For example, we must refute and negate the belief that some have which is to think that Wednesday is a day on which all evil takes place, so they avoid doing certain things on that day.

Dear believers! We must pay close attention to such matters, our belief must be sound and correct, and we must not allow our hearts and minds to be invaded by such falsities. We must not be pessimistic regarding specific times and places because the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade us from doing this. Also, it goes against the sound belief that we are required as Muslims to possess. I ask Allaah to guide me and you all and to make us among those who always think highly of their Lord.

Also, we must know that favours and bounties cannot be attained except by being obedient to Allaah and that hardship, calamities and problems can be reduced if not terminated by supplicating to Allaah or by being obedient to Him. Therefore, whoever relies on Allaah, He is sufficient for him. Allaah says that which translates as: “…And whoever fears Allaah – He will make for him of his matter ease.” (At-Talaaq: 4). Nothing can avert the decree and command of Allaah except supplication. Destruction and calamities cannot be stopped except through obedience to Allaah. I ask Allaah to make me and you all among those whom He has mercy upon. Allaah says that which translates as: “By time, Indeed mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.” (Al-Asr: 1-3).

Features of the Prophet - We read the "Sealed Nectar" and wrote some of the features of the Prophet on the book using stencils and gel pens. Maimoonah drew the shapes and I wrote while she read to me.

Manners and Characteristics of the Prophet We did the same for the Manners and characteristics as well. We discussed a lot about how we should try to imitate him. And I explained how many people became Muslims seeing the good manners of the Messenger of Allaah sallaahu alaihiwasallam.

Comprehension - We used the Junior English Book 1 and did this comprehension. She had read and say if the statements below were true or false.

Social Studies

Continent - North America and North American Contries - We read about North America in the Encyclopaedia. We read about some north American countries and she choose a few to do in detail. She wanted to study about USA as she said Umm Sara and Umm Suhailah live there : ) and she also wanted to know about Canada because of Aunty Umm An Nu'man!!. So this is what she did.

Maths

We did not start Year 1 MEP this week as we are going on a break I thought I will start when we come back Insha Allaah! So instead we did some additions with more numbers.

Arabic

We used the Smart Ark Arabic Book which we got as a Give Away gift from A Muslim Child is Born. She started using this some months ago. She wanted to do it this week.

Then we also read this Arabic Book. A story about an intelligent Rabbit.

Alhamdulillaah we have finished another 6 weeks of work and time for another break Insha Allaah. Maimoonah is doing well with the Hifdhl masha Allaah and we will be doing more Qur'aan during the break and will be going out doors in the mornings to get play in the sun Insha Allaah. I was initially thinking of a 1 week break but I guess we would have 2 weeks Insha Allaah!

Independent Work!

Since we started learning Seerah, Maimoonah is really in love with our Messenger of Allaah sallaahu alaihi wasallam. She just loves to learn about him, read about him and I keep reminding her the best way to love him is to obey him and follow him Insha Allaah!

So with this she started something on her own. Abi gave her some papers that he does not need. This whole project has no interference from me at all and solely done by her from A- Z. And I am really proud of her masha Allaah on this initiation.

She took the papers, folded them used the stapler and made a kind of a book. Then she wrote "The Story of Muhammad (sallaahu alaihiwasallam)". Then every day she spent time either copy-writing certain sentences from the books that we use to study seerah, or adding her own sentences. She used stencils, gel pens, colour pencils, crayons, glue, finger paints, felt pens and did all what she wanted to do. And she will spend a long time masha Allaah and every day she would go through this book, show us, read to us, and enjoys showing us what she has done. While writing when she remembers the letter sounds from Jolly phonics and some grammar rules she would talk about it and talk about the events from the life of the Prophet. Here are some pics.

I could gauge a lot of things from this Project! I noticed that she has understood how to form a sentence. That it starts with a Capital letter and ends with a full stop. She has understood how to present something. She has learnt how to make words using letter sounds. How to decorate a page. How to make it attractive. And I also got a chance to correct her on something very important, Alhamdulillaah she expressed her love for the Messenger of Allaah saying "O! Muhammad (sallaahu alaihiwasallaam) I love you" (she has written this and pasted on her book). Then she showed it to her Abi and we explained to her that we do not say like this as he is not alive and since he is dead , dead people cannot hear. And we only say that We love our messenger. Then she explained to me that she saw in the book something similar. Then I explained to her that usually it will be written with inverted commas since its a story and this is how it is narrated and in real life we do not say like this. Then she said "Ok, I will meet him in Jannah and hug him and say "I love you", Insha Allaah" .

Also I knew where she would need help so that she can improve her language such as leaving space, formation of certain letters and so on.

So Masha Allaah this is indeed a blessing from Allaah and giving children to do things independently is indeed a great learning experience for them as well as for us. It need not be anything formal, as children are indeed quick learners and this is a real nihmah of home schooling!

Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 11

Islaamic Studies

Seerah - We learnt the names of the Family Members of the Prophet sallaahu alaihiwasallam. We recorded some names and we made a tree using construction paper and Maimoonah used her stencils and together we made this tree to keep in mind all the names. This was a nice art activity too. Insha Allaah we will continue learning the family members this week too!

We did not do Fiqh this week, Insha Allaah next week we will learn more about Salaah!

English Language

Jolly Phonics - She learnt 2 more letter sounds

Grammar - We learnt Compound Words. We have completed the first 10 books of the Little Grammar Books masha Allaah! 20 more to go!

Comprehension - We did a passage from Junior English this week. I have brought this book for next year, but now I feel she can complete it this year as it is same as the Little Grammar books we are using but the letters are small. So I am thinking of including this book for grammar and comprehension Insha Allaah so that I can get a higher level next year for her! I copied the questions on another paper and she wrote the answers!

Reading and Writing - This week she went back to her Noddy lol! Suddenly she wanted to read all the Noddy books and every day she read a book to her Abi. Taking the opportunity after she read the book I asked her to write something about Noddy saying I will give her a sticker of Noddy to paste after she completes. She got all excited and wrote this very much independently!

This is what it says

Social Studies

Asian Continent and some Asian Countries. This time she wanted to learn more about each country unlike what we did for Africa. So I printed out flags of few countries that she wanted to learn about and included the capital, currency, language and head of state. I had a nice World Fact Book and we read about each country she chose. And she could read the instructions on the flag and colour them accordingly without any help! I told her to colour the letters and keep while I prayed but when I finished praying she has coloured all the flags too, for a moment I thought she has just randomly coloured. Masha Allaah no she said I read and coloured accordingly and that is what she had done! She filled in all the details about each country asking me the spellings where necessary. I think this is a good project which is very much comprehensive for lot of learning.

Maths

MEP - Alhamdulillaah we have completed MEP reception year.

This week I tought her some easy equations . Now she got the idea that 10 + 2 = 12 and 20 + 2 = 22 and so on. When I first asked her to write the answer for the equations she wrote like this even though she knew the answer verbally.

Then when I asked her to look at the number chart how they are written she understood and re wrote the answers correctly!

Arabic - We did not do anything new continued with Sun letters and Moon Letters

Sewing Saturdays - Finger Knitting!

Alhamdulillaah taking the advise our dear sister Umm Tafari we attempted finger knitting. Jazzakillaah Khayr sis Umm Tafari for the concern and timely suggestion it was a such a beautiful experience and we loved it masha Allaah!

I helped Maimoonah first to do it and eventually she caught it even though she still needed help. But she did well, in fact her one was very much nicer and neater than mine : )

We did not have any proper yarn as usual, just had some thread we use to hang things up and we used it for the moment!

So first we watched this video and Maimoonah started finger knitting!

Watched this You tube and made the flower. Stitching was an issue I guess because the yarn was very soft! But managed to do something: )

So that was how it all went. Time to get more knitting stuff now and explore Insha Allaah!

The Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha!

Innal hamdalillaah, I was so happy to read this and was also very pleased with the speech of our Ameer May Allaah preserve him and so glad to know that the great great grand son of our noble shaikh, the reviver Shaikhul Islaam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab raheehamahullaah was also present here, subhanallaah! thought I would share. I love this country and I sincerely hope and pray that Allaah makes this a land of Tawheed and bless the Ameer for his efforts. Aameen! When we happen to go here Insha Allaah will update you!

DOHA: The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the long awaited Qatar’s biggest mosque yesterday. The mosque which was popularly known as the state mosque has been named as “Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab” Mosque, after the great reformist, pioneer and Muslim theologian of the 18th century.

The ceremony was also attended by the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir’s Special Advisor H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, Speaker of the Advisory (Shura) Council H E Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khulaifi, a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs, ministers and dignitaries.

Muhammad Ibn Abd Al Wahhab (1703–1792) was born in Najd, Saudi Arabia. He advocated purging Islam of what he considered to be impurities and innovations. His great movement, popularly known as “Wahhabism” is the dominant form of Islam in Saudi Arabia.

Wahhabism adheres strictly to the Islamic doctrine of Tawheed, the Uniqueness and Unity of Allah, shared by all Islamic sects. He was influenced by the writings of Ibn Taymiyya and questioned the classical interpretations of Islam, and preached the Muslims to rely on the Quran and the Hadith the true spirit of Islam.

The Emir said that this mosque in the land of Qatar will serve as a platform for reform and worship of God Almighty in the true spirit of Islam away from fads and fancies.

“We named the mosque after the great reformer Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab in honour of the Muslim scholars, who still carry his thought and call for revival to serve Islam and Muslims,” the Emir said.

“His walk all through life in the path of light spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula, guides people to the right path according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah, removes confusion from the minds and deviations that confounded souls,” said the Emir.

“I am confident that this mosques which stems from the land of Qatar, as an eternal part of it, will serve as a platform for reform and sincere call to the Almighty Allah away from fads and fancies to serve the people on earth while coping with the spirit of the era and saving them in the hereafter in order to please Allah and his Messenger,” the Emir said.

The Emir reaffirmed commitment to spare no efforts to carry the message and spread the teachings of Islam in the whole world, noting that the Muslim nation is now in need of renewal and inspiration of the experience of Wahhabi’s da’wah (call) while keeping pace with the era and its developments.

The Emir said no occasion is as lofty as it and no event lives up to it, praying the Almighty Allah to provide us with His grace after “we raised the bases of one of Allah’s houses and completed its construction. Is there a greater and higher act of worship than the remembrance under the roof a new house of Allah’s houses?,” the Emir inquired.

“We named the mosque, which we have the honour to inaugurate today, after the renowned figure, great reformist and pioneer Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab,” the Emir said asking the Almighty Allah that He would be graced by the saying of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH): “God sends to this nation at the head of every one hundred years who he renews its religion”.

The Emir also said that our grandparent, the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani (may Allah have mercy upon him) who was both knowledgeable in religion and a governor, was one of those who adopted the message of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab and spread it in our country and in the Muslim world as he worked hard to spread the Wahhabi thought books among other books and printed them in India in order to let people know more about Allah’s religion and the message of his Messenger.

The Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Dr Ghaith Mubarak Ali Omran Al Kuwari delivered stressed on the great role undertaken by the mosques as an institution throughout the history of Muslims in preserving the Islamic identity and the spiritual and moral values, realising the spiritual security of the Muslim nation, reassurance and spread of the good among the faithful. After the inaugural ceremony, all the dignitaries, including the Emir, the Heir Apparent, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and Their Excellencies offered Friday prayer which was led by Dr Mohammed bin Hassan Al Khatib, the preacher and Islamic scholar at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

He also delivered the Friday sermon in which he confirmed the greatness of this religion that Allah saved from changing and alteration.

“Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul Al Wahhab taught people to discard all kinds of Bida’ah and Ghulu and called people to come back and follow the first Islam which was preached by the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (PBUH),” said Abdul Latif Mohammad Al Sheikh, the great great grandson of Muhammad Ibn Abd Al Wahhab, who was here to attend the ceremony on a special invitation from the government.

Jolly Phonics - She did these letters and sounds. As I expected Alhamdulillaah Maimoonah is improving her spellings by doing Jolly phonics. She is able to recall the letter sounds and spell or write a word now Alhamdulillaah!

Grammar - Homonyms

Comprehension - This time she wrote the answers for the questions in addition to circling the correct answers.

Writing - A dear friend of mine who is a teacher for almost 16 years now suggested that I give Maimoonah a word bank and ask her to write. Masha Allaah this really helped and this is what she wrote! Any way first I asked her what would you like to write about Yourself and she told me. So I wrote some words I thought she would find it difficult to spell. and she came out with this.

Duaa for Dammaj!

As you all know that our brothers and sisters and families from the Ahlus Sunnah in Dammaj who have left everything and gone there to seek ilm are attacked by the Raafidahs for many months and the brothers there are defending themselves by the mercy of Allaah. And many brothers from all over the world who have gone to earn the pleasure of Allaah alone are martyred every day. May Allaah grant them Jannaah, Aameen! Please Make dua for them ya Akhawaat!

" following the footsteps of the scholars , we ask Allaah to aid Ahlu Sunnah in Dammaj against the harms that the Raafidha may/have inflict(ed) on them. May Allaah protect them and strengthen their resolve against the oppressive Raafidha, May Allaah have mercy on those that have died and make them Martyrs Aameen"

All praise is due to Allaah, i testify that none has the right to be worshippedexcept Allaah and that Muhammaad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam is His slave andMessenger,

During the Hajj break, we saw Sheikh Rabee' Bin Haadi al-Madhkhali in hisfull house in fact it on the 4th or 5th of Dhul Hijjah 1432. Thesheikh spoke about the blessed time of Hajj and that everyone should be sincerebefore they embark on this blessed pilgrimage upon the Sunnah. He alsomentioned that Hajj is a reminder of brotherhood and that the blessed time ofthe scholars before showed this brotherhood amongst themselves with kindness toeachother. The likes of Sheikh Bin Baz, Sheikh AlAlbaani and Sheikh MuhammadSaalih Bin 'Uthaimeen rahimahumalllah, even when they differed in matters ofFiqh they showed utmost respect for eachother. because they knew the value andstatus of Ahlu Sunnah. Then the sheikh supplicated for Ahlu Sunnah inYemen, in particular Dammaj against the Raafidha. He mentioned some historyabout the Raafidha and how they plot and plan against Ahlu Sunnah whereeverthey are. Since coming back after Hajj to Madinah, Other
scholars have all supplicated for Ahlu Sunnah in Dammaj against theRaafidha in a very difficult time for them, the likes of Sheikh 'Ubaydal-Jaabiri, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Haadi and others. Likewise, in followingthe footsteps of the scholars, we ask Allaah to aid Ahlu Sunnah in Dammajagainst the harms that the Raafidha may/have inflict(ed) on them. MayAllaah protect them and strengthen their resolve against the opporessiveRaafidha, May Allaah have mercy on those that have died and make them MartyrsAmeen.

Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullaah said that Ahlu Sunnah are most knowledgeable aboutthe truth and most mercy to creation.

Continents and Nations!

This week we started Geography and began studying about Continents and Nations. We already did Continents last year and Maimoonah was familiar with all the continents and could name all of them. Since we will be covering all the Continentsa and the Nations I thought I will post this seperatly Insha Allaah and then every week post the revelvant continent study with our weekly summary. Since there are many pictures I made a slideshow with captions. You can see the pics at the end Insha Allaah!

Insha Allaah I hope to continue this study next year as well in detail, so I decided we will have a binder instead of a book so that we can keep on adding what we do and start from where we have stopped.

First we read Zaynab and Zakariyah the New Neighbour. Maimoonah loves this book and we read it very often. Its a cute book and explains the Aayah "O Mankind we have created you from a male and female and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may know one another". We spoke about this and read the explanation on the book.

As I told in my previous post Maimoonah is crazy with stencils, so I asked her to decorate the above Aayah on a page with her stencils. She stayed up the night and finished it even though I told her to go to sleep, it was way past her bedtime but masha Allaah she wanted to do it and did well.

Then She put together the Continent Puzzle.

Sometime back we had bought her a continent and flags wooden activity kit from a local store here which was pretty cheap and it became handy now. You get a map of the world with countries marked and you get some flags. You got to pin the flags correctly on the map. The wooden piece can be folded to see the back side, as at the back it has the picture of the flag and the name of the country. So this way children can do this on their own and Maimoonah learnt many countries and their flags fast as I have just kept that on the floor near her study area.

Then this week we had to study about Africa and Antarctica. She completed the "My Book of Continents" Africa and Antarctica pages.

We printed out all the African Flags of the African countries from here and filed next to the African Continent page. We coloured few of the Flags and read some facts about the countries and I asked her to find those countries on the map and she liked this a lot. She was racing to find them. We can continue this next year as well since there are so many countries to cover; ) We also talked about Muslim countries in Africa.

Then we read about Antarctica and what happens there and who lives there. She completed the Antarctica page.

We revised the book of people we made last year. And read the Book of Countries (Arabic) and learnt the Arabic names for some of the African countries and land marks.

Sewing Saturdays - Chain Stitch

We managed to get some embroidery threads and cotton clothe the other day at the hypermarket.

So today we attempted to sew "Chain Stitch". This was my favourite stitch when I was in school may be when I was about 8 - 10 years old. And after such a long time I taught Maimoonah how to sew the Chain Stitch. We looked at some you tube also on this. She tried but gave it up easily because I think she is not ready for this stitch as it requires some motor skills and I feel its still not developed for her, Allaah A'lam. Nevertheless she tried and stitched few stitches. May be we will try again after few months Insha Allaah!

Then we thought we would use the supplies we got this time and do something. Maimoonah is mad over stencils these days. She can spend hours and hours drawing using stencils and colouring and pasting and using all kind of imagination. It is a really good thing for her age as she is coming up with lot of creativity using stencils. Since we do not have transfer paper or carbon paper we used her stencils and drew an apple and a pear on a piece of clothe. She stitched part of the running stitch on the hems and I stitched the hem stitch right around.

Then we stitched the apple and the pear all around using chain stitch. Maimoonah did a few stitches with my help and the rest Umm Maimoonah completed : ) Here is a small handkerchief for Maimoonah and she loves it saying "Masha Allaah Ummi, so nicely you have stitched for me, Jazzakillaah Ummi ; )" It is not very neat I guess you can make it even nicer and neater but for now I guess its good enough : ) Insha Allaah!

Other than that she enjoyed reading and the workbook especially the activity where it was all stated wrong and she had to write it correctly: )

MEP - we did few more chapters of the MEP reception year. Mostly learning to write circles and curves and shapes. End of reception is a bit boring we feel but we hope the Year one will be more challenging and interesting Insha Allaah. Few pages to finish the reception year and we will be done with it soon Insha Allaah!

Arabic

Madeenah Arabic - We are studying the next chapter with Al and using sentences like " Al Kurseeyu Jadeedun, Al Qalamu Maksoorun " ect etc. She is enjoying this masha Allaah.

Gate Way to Arabic - She wrote the following letters. Masha Allaah her Arabic handwriting is improving a lot and the love for writing is the latest.

Since we were doing about Animal Habitat we did this Arabic First book on Animal Habitat.

Maimoonah's Aashoorah Fast!

Innal Hamdalillaah another huge milestone by the grace and mercy of Allaah! Maimoonah fasted today! Yes whole day masha Allaah! Today was the first time in her life she has fasted, subhanallaah and she was so happy!

She woke up for suhoor, had her snack and had water. Prayed Fajr and went back to sleep. Woke up at about 9.30 am and masha Allaah continued fasting. We did lot of activities today.

The sweet sister at Homeschool Moments had put a timely post with TJ's Muharram Unit study. I wanted to do all but I have run out of ink to print, so I managed to print only the Aashoorah Fast pages and we went through the unit study. We read and spoke about Moosa alaihissalaam and Maimoonah was very happy that she was fasting on the day Firoun was drowned and Allaah gave victory to Moosa alaihissalaam. We spoke about the Sacredness of the month of Muharram and made this small booklet about the Aashoorah Fast.

She filled in all the info except for the last page. She had to write what she knows about Muharram, she said she was tired and will do it tomorrow Insha Allaah!

We also continued with our daily work doing mostly geography today and completed a lot of it masha Allaah. She also prayed Dhuhar and Asr with me and did Star fall.

And at Magrib broke fast, she made dua and prayed Magrib and Isha had her dinner and now fast asleep, Alhamdulillaah!

Abi was very pleased with her and so was she lol. Inalhamdulillaah!

Allaahu baarik lahaa, she did not trouble me at all, only once at lunch time she said "I am hungry, but I cannot eat". And then when I was trying to keep the dates few minutes before iftaar she asked me can I just eat one date Ummi? I explained to her if she does that she would have broken her fast and no reward but if she can wait for few minutes then she would get all the rewards. She said she will wait. So Masha Allaah I was not very sure if she could fast she is only 4 years and 3 months to be exact but she did well by the mercy of Allaah and she did it truly for the sake of Allaah as I just could feel it Alhamdulillaah! May Allaah keep her upon this Ikhlaas and make her firm and obedient to Him till the end! Aameen!

Our Seerah Study

We started the study of seerah this week as per the SK Islaamic Studies curriculum.
As for me Maimoonah learning the seerah is important for her life Insha Allaah. I do not want this to be a forgotten story as time passes so I intend to make it interesting and make this Noble study of the Seerah become a part of her life.
Insha Allaah through this study of the life of our Prophet Muhammad sallaahu alaihiwasallam I want her to love Allaah and His Messenger more than anyone or anything else in this world, through this I want her to understand the hardships He sallaahu alaihiwasallam and the companions faced and make them her role model through out Insha Allaah. May Allaah make this easy, Aameen.

So for this study so far we are using the following resources Insha Allaah and as we go on we will include whatever we find in the coming days which will be useful Insha Allaah!

A Botany Book to record some points and do some worksheets and activities.

The Arab Society during Ayyaamul Jaahiliyyah
So this week we learnt about the Arab Society during the Days of Ignorance before Islaam. Explained to her the Meaning of Ayyaamul Jaahiliyyah. We read the sealed nectar and understood what kind of society it was. We recorded on our seerah book some points. We discussed about what they worshipped, how their manners were, the good traits and the bad traits and etc etc. She just could not beleive how they could bury the baby girls! I had to tell her at this point. But also assured her that all those babies will be in Jannah and they would not feel the pain as Allaah will relieve them Insha Allaah and they all will be with Ibraaheem alaihissalaam in the gardens of Jannah. She was satisfied masha Allaah!

Then we also looked at the map of Arabia on our atlas and spoke about different countries that belonged to the middle east.

After discussing the Arab Society, I gave her some pictures and asked her to paste and desplay the acts of the Arab Society at that time on her book. And asked her to do the worksheet I made. Also we discussed some reasons that this society needed a Prophet and listed on the book. ~~Will upload the worksheet and the pictures we used soon so that if you want you can download. Then we read the Darus Salaam The Story of Muhammad in Makkaah till the birth of the Prophet. Maimoonah is able to read this book and I feel it is good for her age and pretty comprehensive too. But we use the Sealed Nectar for more information.

Then we put up the Time Line on the Board and Insha Allaah hope to paste the stickers as we go on. Its a nice way to revise and to know how much more to complete. And displaying on the board also reminds every now and then what we are studying.

Then finally we did this Learning Roots Puzzle The Seerah Trail. I helped her and we made this together.

After making the puzzle, I went through the whole seerah from Makkan period till his sallaahu alaihiwasalam death not in detail but just few words so that she would know what we would be studying Insha Allaah!

Maimoonah's First Essay!

This is what it says:
"My Cat's name is Sis.
My cat is playing.
My cat plays with me.
Maimoonah is mom.
Mom gives bunny fish.
Sis plays.
Sis jumps.
Sis walks.
Bunny is sis.

Innalhamdalillaah today Maimoonah surprised us with this Essay : ) Another milestone by the Mercy of Allaah! This is all by herself except she asked me only one word to spell which was "Walks".

Now this is supposed to be all about her cat. She does not have a stuffed toy cat but she has her favourite stuffed toy "Bunny" which is most of the time her Cat. So all that is written is about her Bunny Cat Stuffed Toy!

Now the latest is she loves writing and this was a big surprise for me because we never studied these words that she has used for spellings. All these words she has picked it up by reading, Allaahu A'lam. Now that she loves writing I have told her to remind me next time we go to the store to get a her nice beautiful Journal type of a notebook and she can write everyday whatever she wants Insha Allaah!
