Homeschooling was something I wanted to do even before I got married. Looking back, it has been one of the most satisfying methods of learning throughout my education journey , a journey that has included being a mainstream school teacher, online teacher, school administrator, education mentor, educational consultant, homeschool mentor and much more. Alhamdulillaah!
Those were the days when we started homeschooling without social media, without the endless resources we have today, and with just this blog and other blogs like it. We would look for inspiration, not by simply scrolling through Instagram posts, but by actually taking the time to read, download, print, try a sample ourselves, think about how to teach it, and then decide what to filter, replace or add.
I would often make the resources my own and produce our own units, thinking about how to make sure the children were learning in a way they enjoyed, without pressure, but with a genuine love for learning.
Almost two decades later…
So much has changed! Subhanallaah!
We have seen COVID, social media taking centre stage, and many Muslims in the West making conscious decisions to move to Muslim lands. Homeschooling today is a mixture of so many different approaches and Alhamdulillaah, there are now many, many Muslim educators sharing resources and opportunities.
Some are doing similar things but in their own style, according to their own needs and experiences. Some families are still searching for that right resource for a particular unit or topic they want to cover.
Others have outsourced certain subjects or used online schools, Maashaa Allaah, to complete particular areas of their children's education. Many mums have started small home businesses while continuing to homeschool with support and help around them.
And the good news?
Homeschooling is still going strong!
At the core of Muslim homeschooling is the freedom to learn and teach without compromising our religion, while still moving forward towards academic success, qualifications and future opportunities.
And interestingly, in this age of AI, we are seeing an even clearer distinction between homeschooled students and others in some areas. At the same time, students who attend mainstream schools are also increasingly engaging in home-education-style activities outside school.
Of course, all of this comes with its own challenges.
So here is the big news, in shaa Allaah!
Alhamdulillaah! We have been working behind the scenes for some time now to ensure that the homeschooling journey that started with this blog , sharing, creating and helping other families, continues in a new and more meaningful way by the permission of Allaah.
We are now here to support our homeschooling communities, families and small homeschool groups with even greater benefit, in shaa Allaah.
Introducing Nurture Nest Homeschooling Support!
We will soon be launching the Nurture Nest Homeschooling Support Programme. In shaa Allaah!
This is not just another collection of homeschool resources or another online school/course or programme.
It is designed to provide something that can benefit every homeschooling family, with Islaam at the core, while providing opportunities for structured, standards-based and recognised learning.
The beautiful thing about homeschooling is the freedom it gives you.
And we want you to keep that freedom.

You can use your own resources, your own teaching style, your own activities, your own homeschool groups and your own approach or you can use ours!
What we aim to provide is the support and recognition behind the learning you are already doing so well with your children.
Through Nurture Nest, families will have opportunities to have their children's learning and skills recognised through UK-recognised certification, without turning homeschooling into school-at-home or taking away the freedom that makes homeschooling so special.
Whether you homeschool independently, use online classes, outsource certain subjects, join a co-op, organise playdates with learning activities, or create your own units and projects, we want to explore how we can support you, In shaa Allaah!
And just as importantly, we want to keep the process affordable and accessible for families, in shaa Allaah.
