Workshop and Tour at the Museum of Islamic Art - Doha

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Museum of Islamic Art - Doha

Alhamdulillaah we are slowly starting our out of home activities. Yesterday we booked a workshop and a tour at the Museum of Islamic Art. These workshops are free of charge and makes it easy for homeschoolers as we are able to book sessions during the day.

Museum of Islamic Art inside the building!
Every now and the Museum of Islamic Art announces workshops and other Kids activities. And we hope to participate in workshops that are suitable for us inshaa Allaah. If you are in Doha, keep an eye on these workshops and kids activities and book via emailing the Education Centre at MIA.

Our homeschooling group here in Doha attended the following workshops.

Kids Ages 3 - 5  had Roll and ink workshop. The children were taken to the Museum and shown patterned plates with floral designs.

Then they carved their own floral prints into styrofoam. Using rollers, children rolled paint onto their strofoam and made prints of their design on coloured paper using blue and black. The little ones really enjoyed the whole session.

Kids ages 6 to 10 had the 2D Geometry Science in Art Workshop. The kids were taken to the Museum and shown different Islamic Art and explained as to what is Islimi, Calligraphy and Geometry. It was very interactive that even we learnt about the different shapes and what it means in using them in Islamic Art. The collections were beautiful too.

The kids also learnt the number of sizes of each shape such as octagon, hexagon,  etc and how each shape is used in Islamic Art displayed at the Museum.

Then they were taken to the workshop room which was so lovely and they were taught to use a compass and draw. This was indeed a great experience for the kids and I have not used the compass with Maimoonah yet. So this introduction really made things easier for me.

The very talented enthusiastic instructor taught the kids about how the Muslims those days used the stars and found their way and how precisely they used these Islamic Art.

Kids using the compass followed instructions and made different geometric designs. She taught them what is Intersect and Vesica and how to use all this and draw this shape.

Kids did each circle using the compass and following instructions.

Then they were taught how to use the points and draw a hexagon and complete the design.

After the workshop kids were taken on a short tour of the museum and with that the session ended. This workshop gave the homeschooled kids a nice different learning environment and all of them enjoyed. We hope to book more suitable workshops in the future too Inshaa Allaah. We sincerely thank the dedicated Staff of the Education Centre of Museum of Islamic and Art and the management for having us and welcoming us.

Budding Photographer!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

When children grow, sometimes makes me wonder how their interests suddenly change and talents become more evident, Alhamdulillaah! From recently Maimoonah has been exploring how to use her father's Digital SLR Camera and learning with him techniques every now and then.

Additionally she also writes descriptions of pictures taken and so on.... Few days ago she was able to catch this while travelling and this picture of her's have become pretty popular in Doha!

I am just thinking of creating a blog for her as she advances and making her write about the pictures she takes where she can include the Aayahs of the Qur'aan and Hadeeeth and the sayings of the scholars to make it beneficial and make her see the beautiful creations of Allaah. This way she would learn technology, ICT, Language and writing skills and above all how to connect all of this to her Lord Inshaa Allaah!

This thought came to me as I feel she needs more challenging things to do now and best is to link all what she wants to do to Islaam and make it beneficial Inshaa Allaah!> Once we have set up and going forward we will share with you all her journey bi idhnillaah!
