When is the Course?

The Live classes are scheduled for Saturdays 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th November 2020, time would be 5pm to 7pm KSA/Qatar Time. Inshaa Allaah and extra classes will be held if needed as per the feedback we receive for assignments and training. If the timings are not suitable you can sign up and access the recordings of the live classes. 

Online 24/7 accessible classroom will be opened from the 5th of November till the 30th of December 2020. 30th December will be the last day of the training course. Remote training will be provided at this online classroom via video instructions, demonstrations and assignments and discussion.

Qamar Homeschool Serving the Community in New Jersey

We are absolutely delighted to partner with Qamar Homeschool in New Jersey in collaborating with them to provide our Nurture Islaam Pre Kinder Curriculum Pack and our other Nurture Islaam Series Products along with our Nurture Islaam Online Courses to benefit their community. Alhamdulillaah. 

Qamar Homeschool is run by a family close to my heart. May Allaah preserve them.  Aameen. The team is headed by Umm Raafiq a dear sister who is close to me and who has joined me for all of my workshops and courses for mums and teachers. She comes with real-time experience of homeschooling her children who range from little ones to teens to grown-ups! Allaahumma Baarik. 

And the most interesting part I love is that her teens and grown-up children are part of Qamar Homeschool team too. They are such lovely, well mannered and knowledgeable girls who are my students for the last four years. Alhamdulillaah.

Qamar Homeschool is also ready to enhance the much-needed technology skills from an early age with moderation and supervision. 

And finally, what about these gorgeous cubbies and the motor-sensory learning spaces. They just look so wonderful. 

And finally, have a look at this inviting learning space for the teens and preteens, which we hope would further benefit with older kids joining Qamar Homeschool for learning different skills and projects and also Qamar Homeschool would gradually open their doors for higher classes Inshaa Allaah. Currently, this is the learning space for Sister Umm Raafiq's own teen/preteen kids. Allaahumma Baarik.

Stemming from my last blog post "How to Teach Aqeedah to Little Children" we are pleased to offer yet another online course for the little kids. 

Due to many sisters demanding a stress-free interactive course for the little ones where they will get exposed to authentic Aqeedah knowledge we decided to start with "Who is Allaah"?

This age group (3 to 5 years) is an interesting age group where kids are very receptive to learning, of course when it is engaging and interesting to them. However, I was reluctant to have online classes for this age group as I strongly believe that children this age should be cultivated by their parents with bonding and fruitful discussions.  Then we realised many parents are worried about imparting the correct aqeedah knowledge and are fearing that they may make mistakes while they try to explain concepts of Aqeedah to their kids. We understand this, therefore, we chose to offer these courses along with the mums, where mums enhance their skills of teaching the children.

How to Teach Aqeedah (Creed) to little Children?

Alhamdulillaah, with many parents realising the importance of teaching children the Aqeedah or the Creed from an early age, I get questions from sisters how exactly they could teach this to their children without making them imagine things. 

Aqeedah is the core of the religion of Islaam. Aqeedah is the foundation upon which the deen is built and by which actions of a Muslim become sound and correct. 

Some of us may have the thought that this is such a complex concept and little children are unable to absorb and understand this concept at an early age. therefore it is best to wait till they grow and reach an age they are able to distinguish important criteria in order to explain Aqeedah to them. 

This thought is natural because sadly,  many of us learnt the right Aqeedah when we were older. 

However, children are like sponges, especially when they are young. And parents and teachers rush to give them every other knowledge in order to develop their language, motor and social skills from a very young age, and of course, put off Aqeedah for later. 

My advice is to let the teaching of Aqeedah be the first thing that you teach your children. If that is the case, the next question is how exactly we should be teaching little children Aqeedah?

Yes I agree Aqeedah is not something you can do like teaching mathematics, language and science. We do have limitations as many of the aspects of the Aqeedah are from the unseen (Ghaib), and we have Islaamic restrictions and boundaries to adhere to. 

So here are some simple tips and ways to consider teaching Aqeedah for little children.

Use the Books of the Scholars

Get your information from the works of our scholars. Subhanallaah we do not have to look elsewhere. They have left a legacy behind with authentic rich text and information. Invest in the books of the Ulama from the right publishers and authors. 

They gave importance to Aqeedah and they taught just as the Prophet sallaahu alaihiwasallam taught his companions. When you use information from the correct authentic sources it becomes very easy to teach these aspects to your children. All you need to do is simplify it and feed in the information little at a time with some creativity as per age and ability. You cannot teach something you do not know. So it is best that you equip yourself with knowledge first.

Integrate Aqeedah into Academics and Day to Day Learning

Children learn well when they see relevance to their own lives and surroundings.  So the best way to teach Aqeedah is to INTEGRATE it into what they explore and learn every day. If you separate Aqeedah or Islaam from academics and their surroundings they will see no relevance to it and it would become something boring for them. If you expose them to learning other subjects with engaging resources and enthusiasm and leave off Aqeedah for other than that, they will not be keen to learn the Aqeedah.

Get the Right Resources

If you stick to the serious rich information the child will be receptive and imagination can be limited. This largely depends on your approach and the resources you use. So be mindful of choosing the correct resources. Check if the resources that you choose are from the right authors and right sources. Remember, Aqeedah is the core if you take this lightly and use anything and everything it will be really difficult to take out the wrong or incorrect information fed into little minds.

Blending Online Learning into Homeschooling - Online Workshop for Mums

A few months ago, we had a FREE online workshop for mums who were suddenly forced to homeschool their children due to the current situation on "Making the Most of Online Learning". The turnout for this workshop was overwhelming Alhamdulillaah. Stemming from this introduction workshop we decided to go deeper into this dominating topic to enlighten the schooling and the homeschooling mums!

Yes, we have designed a simple to understand 4-day workshop for busy mums who are shouldered with an added responsibility of educating the children full time. 

Situations bring CHANGES! Sometimes we like the changes and sometimes we don't.

COVID-19 has forced some changes in the whole education system and made the policymakers rethink and reinvent.

This means even after Allaah lifts this Calamity, the CHANGE in the Education Policy is going to be a reality.

This also means that parents are now required more than ever before to be part of the education of their children. Whether you homeschool or whether you send your children to school You as a MUM will have a different role to play in understanding and supporting the trend.

Home educators may argue this situation has no CHANGE in their Homeschool as they were always away from the Standard Education/School systems.

However, take note, Home Education too is expected to take a twist!

The wise Home Educator will not relax now. You have taken in charge of your children's education, therefore you should be aware of the happenings, you should be wise to prepare yourself now to ADAPT and Change where needed.


So our question is, how will the Covid-19 pandemic alter the future of teaching and learning?

Educationist and experts are predicting the below three points as some main changes to expect in the near future!

• Online Education Will Be a Strategic Priority at Every Institution
• Existing and Potential Online Program Management (Providers) Partnerships Will Be Rethought

No doubt the above changes will have benefits and challenges. Many parents, as well as teachers, are new to these concepts and we cannot expect them to understand and adapt to these overnight. 

Having noted the above the next question is to understand how this change would affect the "Muslim Children", and what should be taken into consideration by Muslim parents in order to adapt these changes without compromising the religion of Islaam.  The Salafus Saaliheen, our predecessors used to say that children are upon their initial upbringing, and it is this initial education that moulds them for the future.

And the greatest of blessings from our Lord is that everything Allah decrees for the believer, whether in ease or hardship, will be good for him. If he experiences ease, he remains grateful and is rewarded. If he experiences hardship, he remains patient and is rewarded. Therefore we as Muslim parents must be wise to understand these educational changes and adapt it accordingly where we pave the way to aid our children to fulfil the purpose of their creation. In other words, strike that balance!

Alhamdulillaah, we have been working hard on completing a set of exciting activity books for little kids for the past two or more years. 

Our intent was to educate Muslim children from an early age to live Islaam. This is why a huge amount of thought and effort was put into designing these books.  We are pleased to announce that all 22 books are now available to purchase and benefit. 

If you are using these books with a 3 - 5-year-olds then they work well as read-aloud books and activity books for that age group.  Because this set of books are based upon a complete curriculum for  PreK level (Ages 3 -5) it includes what a child would learn in preschool. So if you are using for this age group the books cover just more than Islaam studies. It covers many other subjects like Language, Maths, Social Studies, Arts and Crafts, Science, and moral and values, plus much more. 

These books are popularly used as Islaamic Studies Activity books for ages 5 to 8 years.  We have extension activity sheets for some of the books which supplement this age group (5 - 8) which can be purchased separately as and when they are available. The big difference is that Islaam is integrated into the secular subjects, The series starts with Who is Allaah and Where is Allaah then goes on to Who Created Me and the other titles.

The format and details of these Activity Books are as follows.

Simplified Text about the topic explaining all aspects pertaining to the title. This is a great teacher's resource as all information is in one place, simplified to make the little ones understand. This can be also used for reading aloud. And older children 5 - 9 can read the text by themselves if they are emergent readers. The text includes poetry style writing, stories from the Quráan and the Sunnah, encyclopedic type information text, Quráan Aayahs and Hadeeth and sayings of the scholars. 

 

Review Questions - Each book contains review questions after the text, which can be used for a recap or for comprehension purposes depending on the age of the child.

Activities - Each book has different engaging activities based upon imparting many different skills for this age group. Activities have varieties where the teacher can choose according to the capability of the child. There are activities to cater to many different learning styles of the child too. Examples of activities, storytime, comprehension, critical thinking, poster and brochure making, arts and crafts, worksheets, community projects and more..

Resources - We have also included the resources to cut and paste and for other activities. This will save time for you Inshaa Allaah.
