Budding Photographer!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

When children grow, sometimes makes me wonder how their interests suddenly change and talents become more evident, Alhamdulillaah! From recently Maimoonah has been exploring how to use her father's Digital SLR Camera and learning with him techniques every now and then.

Additionally she also writes descriptions of pictures taken and so on.... Few days ago she was able to catch this while travelling and this picture of her's have become pretty popular in Doha!

I am just thinking of creating a blog for her as she advances and making her write about the pictures she takes where she can include the Aayahs of the Qur'aan and Hadeeeth and the sayings of the scholars to make it beneficial and make her see the beautiful creations of Allaah. This way she would learn technology, ICT, Language and writing skills and above all how to connect all of this to her Lord Inshaa Allaah!

This thought came to me as I feel she needs more challenging things to do now and best is to link all what she wants to do to Islaam and make it beneficial Inshaa Allaah!> Once we have set up and going forward we will share with you all her journey bi idhnillaah!

Assalamu’alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu
It is nice to see all of you sisters here so focused on correct tarbiyah of children realizing that they are the biggest amanah Allah bestowed upon us. I just stumbled upon this site today.
I am also home schooling my tenth grader but when I started home schooling I wanted an organized curriculum and class schedule so I do not have to be behind his back. I soon realized that the home school programs were very expensive. My husband and I have always encouraged parents to home school seeing the environment even of Islamic schools but we soon realized not many can afford the outrageous tuition. By the grace of Allah it was not hard for us to get the best virtual home school available for my son but soon started thinking about other children of the ummah.
We just started an online virtual school with very affordable tuition. In addition there are other discounts based on income. It is a not for profit organization. The teachers are paid but the rest of the staff is working on a volunteer basis. The school’s website is arqam.org. Please visit it and see for yourself how this school offers both formal Islamic education as well as top level academics for our children. The goal in Islamic Studies is to cover all subjects but with special emphasis on study of hadith and understanding the quran in Arabic. All our teachers for the non-Islamic curriculum are certified and have a Masters degree. This is the school’s first year and we are in the process of getting it accredited InShaAllah this year. This is the first ISlamic Virtual school of its kind and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The unique thing is that all classes are live on the computer so the children have a school day from 8am-3pm just like any regular school and that way automatically are kept busy throughout the school day. The only responsibility of the parent is to put a good parental control on the computer and the school helps parents with that as well.
We need help spreading this word so we can see the continuation of this school and helping it grow to benefit our ummah. Please let us know if you have any marketing ideas.
And may Allah help every brother and sister striving in His path and help uplift our ummah. Ameen.

Asalaamu alaikum Wa rahmatullah!

SubhanAllah it's so funny I read this post because just 2 days ago I allowed my girls the camera and spoke with my husband about allowing them to use it to take pictures of inanimate nature as a hobby!

I originally thought of giving them a nature journal where they could stick their pictures and findings and encourage writing - but I love your blog idea! - maybe it would be nice if they started blogs like this which they could all read and view one another's for ideas and inspiration too?

BarakAllahu Feekum!

Alaiakum salaam warahmathullaahi wa barakaatuhu Akhawaat,

Umm Ziad, Jazzaakillaah Khayr for your kind words. May Allaah reward you and your family for all your work. I am sorry I am really tied up for time, but when I do get some time I will try to go through your website Inshaa Allaah.
At the moment I have many family commitments. I hope you understand. When I do go through I can email inshaa Allaah.

Umm Aaminah, nice to see you here. Jazzaakillaah Khayr for the encouragement. Hope all is well with you and family.

Amatullaah, yes I am no where near it too, Alhamdulillaah Maimoonah has someone to learn from. If he is really interested I think there are online tutoring videos where he can watch with an adult. Also I found kids national geographic had some very short videos on the techniques, easy to understand! Hope this helps.

Umm Khadeeja, great! The issue with Nature Journal would be running up and down to get the pictures printed, which is not an option for me, even though I would have loved the idea of having something in the hand and writing. So best was the blog. Did not have the time yet to set it up but want to do it Inshaa Allaah.

Yes it will be nice that they can follow each other and exchange ideas and advise each other with good Inshaa Allaah. Let us know when you are done and we will keep you updated too.

If there is a lot of interest amongst other sisters we can even have a contest every now and then and get some sponsors to give them an award for the best picture and creative writing of course linking the project to Islaam! ?

Baarakallaah Feekum!
