We discussed about the Attribute of Allaah As Samee - The All Hearing. I explained to her that Allaah hears every little thing and He hears everything at the same time without any confusion. We also learnt that Allaah hears our speech public and private and He hears our dua, He hears when we recite the Qur'aan and He rewards for all of this. Also we have to take care of our speech so that we do not talk anything bad and earn the anger of Allaah, as He hears everything.
Sis Umm Nu'man's mini book has the story of Khaula bint Tha'labah and the fact that Allaah heard her. So Masha Allaah this was a nice comprehension activity as well as a point to make her understand that Allaah hears everything even the distress and disputes of the creation.
Our Ears
Then we learnt that Allaah blessed us with ears to hear. We learnt about the ear. Parts of the ear and how ears work. We used all the resources from this site for our study.
We pasted the diagram of the ear in the Environmental studies book and watched a presentation on how our ears work.
She did this decibel activity on the mini book
We also learnt about taking care of our ears and that there are some people who are deaf and they do not have the sight of hearing. We reminded ourselves that we should always be thankful to Allaah for this blessing and use it to please Him alone. With this we discussed what kind of things we would like to hear and what kind of sounds we would not like to hear. She asked her Abi what he would like to hear and not hear. This was a family discussion Masha Allaah.
Sense of Hearing Activities:
Sound Bingo
This was something very interesting. I got this from here. We used the shells that Maimoonah had collected from the beach for this. I played the sounds and asked her to identify them and place the shell on the correct picture. We avoided all the musical instrument sounds.
Identifying Different Sounds
I took few bottles and containers and filled them up with different things like rice, plastic bottles, paper clips, liquid, coffee beans etc etc. Blind folded Maimoonah and ask her to shake the containers and identify the sounds. Masha Allaah she identified all the sounds correctly except for the paper clips! She thought that was m and m chocolates!!!
Whisper Game
I wrote little words and sentences in pieces of paper folded them and put into a basket. Each one has to take a one slip and read and whisper that to the other person. The whole session is conducted without making any sound except for the whisper. This was a nice quiet game masha Allaah as well as good reading practice.
Sound from a glass of water
This would be very successful if you do it with a glass which resembles the shape of a wine glass. Pour some water and with your finger go around the surface of the glass for some time and you will hear a sound. It is exciting when the sound keeps increasing..
What sound do you hear?
We went to corniche (Corniche is what you see on my blog now and before, the background pictures) the other day. while sitting there I asked her to tell me all what she can hear. This was her list:
- I can hear the cars
- I can hear some people talking
- I can hear the Adhaan
- I can hear the footsteps of some people walking and some running
- I can hear the boat going far a way.
- I can hear a Taa'irah (air plane) flying up
- I can hear a baby crying
- I can hear the sound of the bicycle
- I can hear the birds chirping
- I can hear the sound of the water etc etc
Masha Allaah this was a very good thing as I realize now she wants to be descriptive and these questions make her think and relate well.
Sense of Hearing Worksheet
She was supposed to circle the pictures that she thinks would make some sounds.
Loud and soft sounds
We spoke about sounds that are loud and soft and did this activity on the mini book. Also reminded her that girls should speak softly .
Asmaaul Husna
We learnt As Samee - The All Hearing and Al Khabeer - The Well Aware
Qur'aan Memorization
Masha Allaah she memorized Soorah Humazah. Her cough is much better and now and we are back to normal with Hifidh by the grace of Allaah
Aqeedah
Continued to read Usooluth Thalaathah and The Basic Principles. This week learnt the meaning of "Muhammadur Rasoolullaah".
Maths
We are on Ordinal Numbers now on MEP. She is beginning to understand this concept a bit now and I think with practice she will do more Insha Allaah.
She did this counting and colouring activity on the number book.
Writing, Reading and Language
She traced these
Also did this activity with "ear" sound on the mini book.
Masha Allaah her reading is progressing well. She wants to read more books now even though she still wants me to be next to her to prompt the words she does not know. But I am pleased with her reading for her age so far masha Allaah. We read books she likes and Insha Allaah we hope to re arrange our reading place and theme related books along with a circle time soon Insha Allaah. Got inspired by our dearest sis Umm Sara. Have a look at her circle time here Insha Allaah you would love it.
Arabic
We learnt these letters. She coloured, pasted and traced.
That's it for this week Insha Allaah!

As Salaamu Alaikum
Mashaa'Allaah. Baraka'Allaahu'Feekum. Did Maimoonah ever ask you to explain more about what you were saying to her that Allaah is able to hear everything without confusion. What did she think about that?
When you explain certain things about Allaah- does she seem to grasp it fast- does she ask a lot of questions
I probably ask this before- forgive me if I did- but is all the work done in certain amount of days? If so- how many days? When do you not home school?
Mashaa'Allaah I really enjoy the activities. *thumbs up to my little sister in Islaam Maimoonah* May Allaah make her pious Aameen
Alaikum salaam ya akhawaat!
Yes sis Umm Nu'man, we were busy and enjoyed too. When Maimoonah sees your mini book she keeps saying that she wants aunty Umm An Nu'man to come to Qatar. Smile! Barakallaah feeki for everything ukhtee!
Jazzakillaah khayr Umm Suhailah for your kind comments. We do school Sunday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday are outdoor activities. But for some reason if we had missed weekdays then we use the weekend as well.
She listens very carefully when I talk about Allaah. She did not ask me anything when I said He hears without confusion. But she has asked, why Allaah has no mother? Is He a girl or a boy? Is He like us? When I answer these questions she is satisfied. Then she says she wants to see Allaah and when I say you can see Allaah when you enter jannah insha Allaah, she is happy. Hope I have answered all your questions.
Bismillaah
As Salaamu Alaikum
