Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 16

Islaamic Studies

  • Seerah - We revised our Note Book from the beginning till what we have learnt so far. Spoke about certain things and had a nice discussion
  • Worksheet - Maimoonah has heard many kids talking about Exams so she wanted me to give her a big Exam paper so that she too can do exams. So I made this paper for her on Seerah and she really enjoyed it. We did Part 1 this week and will do the next part next week Insha Allaah. She looked at the books, found the spellings for certain words that she did not know and completed all. If you want you can download this file here and use it according to your child's level Insha Allaah.(if you find any mistakes please do inform me)

  • Fiqh - Salaah. We are still learning the Adhkaar for Salaah, going a bit slow Insha Allaah

English Language
  • Jolly Phonics  - Revising the letter sounds. Will be doing more activities next week Insha Allaah
  • Grammar - Pronouns

  • Comprehension - She did the next Junior English Passage for comprehension.

  • Writing - She has been writing many letters and small books to her relations every now and then and its too much for me to put pics of all of them. Insha Allaah will select few and upload next week. She has been typing well too as her spellings have improved a lot masha Allaah. I have a session for her once every week where she meddles with MS Word. Now she knows to change fonts, type, insert pics and clip art and save the file. All explored on her own. She will look at books sometimes and type or type her own story and insert pics accordingly. She has also learnt how to search for pics that she wants by typing and searching on clipart. : ) so ICT skills are growing too very informally.
  • Reading - She is learning new words and still reading. She has Story Time with our sister Umm Sara, via skype every Tuesdays and she just waits for Tuesdays now. May Allaah reward sis Umm Sara and her kids for taking the time to read to Maimoonah. She reads the books that she has chosen and Sara and Maimoonah read to each other what they have chosen.

Science
  • Clothes - This was almost a revision. She did the activities on the Smart Start Science Book. Then I also gave her some old magazines and asked her to cut and paste some clothes. ( I remember me doing all this for her last year and she has grown now to do all this by herself this year masha Allaah!)
  • From where does clothes come. Spoke about it and explained some of the process. She did the activities on the work book.

  • Mirror- This was fun and she liked it a lot. We experimented with the mirror how the writings look and the shapes look.

Maths
Alhamdulillaah so far MEP is going well. This week we made the number ladder, taught her to count one number loud and the other to whisper then to count backwards by looking and without looking, She caught it well.

We also discussed about shapes and using shapes did >, <, =

Arabic
  • Qur'aan Centre  - We completed learning Soorah Ikhlaas and did the activities. Alhamdulilaah this is working well with Maimoonah and May Allaah reward sis Umm An Nu'man for her hard work and and sis Umm Sara for encouraging me to try this. It is tremendously making things easy for me. Alhamdulillaah. Maimoonah can read all the words and she could do the matching activity after reading independently. We also played a game with words and practised more on this.

MashaAllah, nice job you guys.
SubhanAllah, she is acting like a big schoolgirl asking for exams :)
I really liked the test sheet, inshaAllah we will use them when kids are ready.Jazakillahu khair.

Sarah also enjoys reading together with Maimoonah alhamdulillah. And I can see how much work Maimoonah can do on the computer after seeing her interest in typing. My kids only sit and use computer when we read together with Maimoonah, other than that they don't use any computer : )

Hugs for Maimoonah from us.

MashAllah, well done.

SubhanAllah, my kids dont know what exam is yet lol. Do you have specific days to assess her? I try to have kind of assessment day every 4 weeks, like a revision day. But nothing formal, no worksheets. Try to use yours sometime inshaAllah.

Oh my girls both use MS word, they write letters to my parents, sisters and a brother, insert pictures and shapes. choose a color for shapes etc. This is without us introducing them to MS word. They pick up by trying and exploring. But then their dad was saying it is way too early to let them start using Word. they might lose interest in handwriting and we should focus more in natural handwriting :). (A lot of English kids have awful handwriting, so I guess he has a point. And the older they get, they would be more curious about all the technology out there and more inclined to learn, less inclined to do handwriting as there is no need subhanAllah).

Also JazakAllah khayr so much for your links on Arabic more post. Like I said, we have been using a couple of auido vocab and audio book pages. We have also printed the collection of story books via one of your link. SubhanAllah, the books are so awesome. We have complete collection of living books/whole books in Arabic for free. and it has helped Sumayya to make a BIG progress with her Reading and vocab. Every day Abu Sumayya reads aloud about an hour to them in Arabic and kids both love those books and memorizing the words willingly. I intend to write more on this soon inshaAllah. I am so glad I found those books (there are more than 20 in the collection) through your blog sister :)

Alaikum salaam Y Akhawaat for the kind words and encouragement.

Umm Sara, lol I am sure she really does not know the meaning of Exams yet!!! And its best that she does not know. She thinks its fun and let it be Insha Allaah! I am glad you liked the Exam Paper : )

Nice to know your kids do not trouble you with computer. : ) I have no choice sometimes because I know Maimoonah misses her relatives back at home and when they come on skype then I allow her to chat cos she needs to have that bond too. But I do limit it as I know if they get addicted its will be a big problem. I see the signs now and am more careful and mostly I use skype on my mobile! The positive thing is her spellings have improved : )

Umm Sumayya, no I do not assess her with worksheets like exams in school as I feel it is not the best way to do. Every 6 weeks we take a break and we do revision at that time and find some other workbooks for her age that I have bought and kept. And go through the work done for that 6 weeks.

I agree with your husband's concern which is my concern too. I have seen and heard many do not have good hand writings in the west, unlike in our part of the world. I am very careful and limit this only for a once in a week for few mints. Wa iyyaaki, glad the Arabic resources helped you, Alhamdulillaah!

Umm Suhailah how are you? Was wondering where have you disappeared? Hope everything is ok with all of you. Jazzakillaah Khayr, yes she is back to normal Alhamdulillaah now.
