Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 5

Islaamic Studies

  • Pillars of Islaam - Zakaah  - Explained to her the meaning of Zakaah, the properties on which Zakaah is due and the 8 categories of people who can receive Zakaah. She did the Zakaah worksheet.
  • Pillars of Islaam - Saum - Since we have covered most of it during Ramadhaan not too long ago, we revised some of the things. She read the TJ Ramadhaan Primer Book and then spoke about last Ramadhaan in Makkaah. She was remembering things and talking about it. She did this worksheet that I prepared as a revision.

English Language
  • Jolly Phonics - She learnt the following sounds and wrote the letters
  • Grammar - We learnt about Animals and their Young. She read the Little Grammar Book and did all the activities.

  • Vocabulary - We learnt three words this week, Aggressive, polite and rare

Social Studies/Science

  • Light - We used the Encyclopaedia and learnt about Light. Asked her to name some sources of light and she did well. She pasted some sources of Light on the Science book and added glitter and decorated.

Then we learnt that Light is important to us so that we can see things. I made a little peep box using the tissue box. We made a small hole and put some stuff inside and then covered the top. She tried peeping through the whole and look but she said it was dark and cannot see anything. When we opened the cover she could see the things inside.

We also learnt that light travels in a straight line, and some objects reflect light and some objects passes the light through them and some don't. Just explained to her the terms transparent, translucent and opaque and did this small experiments to make her understand. We used CD, glass. plastic paper, thick paper and flashed the light to see if it passes through or not. She did the Smart Science Activities too.

  • Shadow - We learnt that if we block the light we can make shadows. She had a blast with making shadows with her stuffed toys.

We learnt that if the light is in front the shadow will be behind. And we traced the shadow of a pencil at different times and recorded them. We learnt that the times for Dhuhar and Asr Prayers are defined with shadows.

  • Rainbow _ we learnt that when the light passes through the rain drops rainbow is formed and explained to her the hadeeth which says Rainbow is a sign of tranquillity after the floods of Nooh alaihissalaam. We used the CD and made rainbow colours.

  • Cloud, Rain and Water Cycle - Since we have covered this topic last year we used the water cycle wheel and the diagram and revised. She remembered the experiment we did last year with the cotton wool and water and explained to me when the clouds cannot hold the water it drips like this : )

Maths

We continued with MEP few more chapters. Learnt about shapes, more and less and how many more. She also did her additions.

Arabic
  • Madeenah Reader - We practised This and that -ذلك , و using many things. She enjoyed this. I was purposely telling her everything wrong and she had fun correcting me!
  • We are also revising all the Arabic first books during our circle time just to keep them fresh as I notice that she is forgetting some words she used to know before and one big reason is that I have not read these books to her for sometime. We are going ahead with Iqra and she is becoming familiar with different forms of the Arabic letters which we do during circle time. Insha Allaah will write a separate post on the circle time progress.

Art and Craft

We are invited for lunch at a relative's place this weekend and Maimoonah is over joyed because she would be meeting her pal after a long time. So she wanted to make a card for her. We used the Smart Ark card making kit and she decorated and wrote. This writing was done with lot of interest and she even told me I know to spell so don't teach me : )
