Prophets Sent By Allaah - Hud Alaihissalaam

We learnt about Prophet Hud alaihissalaam this weekend. It has been sometime now and we have not covered about the Prophets. So we used the Darus salaam Prophets Sent by Allaah book and the Stories of the Prophets.

First I read Ibn Katheer's Stories of the Prophet. We learnt that Hud alaihissalam was an Arab Prophet and some say that he was the first to speak Arabic. Also we learnt that Aad were the first people to make shirk after the Flood of Nuh Alaihissalaam.

Then we read the Darussalaam book and discussed about the story. We learnt that the people of Aad were given great blessings by Allaah and we use the Atlas of The Quraan  (again I wopuld not recommend this site for anything else, please be cautious from whom you take lnowledege Insha Allaah!)book and printed out this map and talked about where the people of Aad were and when she saw Yemen she was like please tell Abi to take me there to see the place. I told her Yemen is not far away from here and now you will not see anything as the place is ruined now and best is that we do not go to such places fearing the wrath of Allaah would come on to us.

So any way we pasted the map on to the Prophet's book. Wrote important facts about Prophet Hud on the Prophets Fact Sheet  and also she did the worksheet on Hud alaihissalaam which I got from some where : ) cannot remember the links.

We also used this Hud Lesson plan from sis Umm An Nu'man. Using the pictures I asked her to re tell the story by pasting the pictures on the book. She wanted me to hold her hand and write certain things as well! This is how it looked after she completed.

Then we made these nice Easel and Ink Hud alaihissalaam sequence cards. And she put them in order.

We learnt that the wind that was sent to destroy the Aad was blowing for 7 nights and 8 days and our Messenger of Allaah would be so scared when he sees dark clouds. So we learnt this dua to be recited during a wind storm. We also watched a hurricane scene from You Tube.

Later she wanted to make the Learning Roots Giant Journey Puzzle.

One thing that I want to share with you all is that sometimes some think that teaching children about the Prophets will make them feel as though Allaah only punishes people. And thus many avoid teaching the Prophets until they become old. But I feel you can turn it the other side. I make it very clear that Allaah out of His Mercy sent these Prophets one after the other to guide people who were so arrogant and were always following Iblees.

And the Prophets were so patient tolerating all the wicked things the people did to them and they are indeed the best of people ever that Allaah created. And when the people did not listen after telling them so much and when they wanted to harm the Prophets and Messengers then Allaah punished them with a severe punishment.

Sometimes Maimoonah says I do not want Allaah to punish people Ummi, then I explain to her and tell her see how Merciful Allaah is. He gave the Aad all the blessings, to eat, big castles all of them were strong, but did they thank Allaah, did they listen to Hud alaihissalaam, No they worshipped someone else, is it right? Then she said no, they should worship only Allaah. So I said yes exactly, since they did not worship and making mischief and hurting the Muslims Allaah punished them and saved the Muslims. Then she did understand the point. This way they develop love for the Prophets and Messengers Insha Allaah! So just a caution on how you handle the small ones while teaching them the Stories of the Prophet Insha Allaah!

Assalaamu alaikum,

Jazak Allah khair uhktee. The lessonplan from sister Umm An`numan and the sequenze cards from easel and ink looks very nice, I have not seen them before! Its a good and visual way for the children to retell the story I think. Will insha Allah use it when we review.

And barak Allahu fiky for the advices at the end I agree and that is my experience in teaching my kids about the prophets a.s too. Alhamdulillah.

Alaikum salaam warahmathullaah Akhawaat and Jazzakumullaah Khayr for your kind words!

Umm Suhailah, these are Darus Salaam books, so should be widely available in the US, check it out on the net or ask around. Masha Allaah they are very think board books with rhyming sentences and illustrations are lovely too. It was around 3 US dollars in the local book shop masha Allaah I felt it was cheap for that amount as the quality is very good!

Umm Adam, yes sis Umm An Nu'man was doing these lesson plans that time I think she did for Musa alaihissalaam as well! Hope to see more from her but she is having tight schedules so got to excuse her Insha Allaah! May Allaah reward her immensely! Aameen!

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi, Well done mashaAllah.
I love to teach Lives of Prophets to my kids and they both like the stories as well alhamdulillah. Somehow they have not had any issue with Allah punishing those "bad" people after learning about all the wicked things they have done. I guess they kind of understand that they really deserved to be punished. It is also very useful to relate something of our time to the stories of Prophets once kids know the events and their details well. And, yes the Prophets sent by Allah books are very well written with nice illustrations alhamdulillah, my kids like them too. They don't get tired of reading them. I think you can get them for 5.99 at Darussalam or if you buy them altogether it might be cheaper.

Alaikum salaam warahmathullaah Umm Sara,
Maimoonah is very very sensitive and does not like people being hurt, so have to handle her that way, the latest is that she does not want Allaah to punish our Prophets Parents, Abdullaah and Aaminah. She read the book of Muhammad and found out that they were upon shirk, so every day she is asking the same question, will Allaah punish them? with full of tears. So we have to keep telling her what the Messenger of Allaah said about his parents! : )

Umm Khadeejah wa iyyaaki, hope to see more from you Insha Allaah!!
