Bricks 4 Kidz Session!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Maimoonah attended a session with Bricks4Kidz today. The QMuslimah online Forum sisters had organized this event for the members' kids and it was a nice session. This is the description of Bricks 4 Kidz according to their website

Bricks 4 Kidz classes provide an atmosphere for children to, learn, build and play with LEGO® bricks. Programs are built around model plans, designed by engineers and architects, with themes such as space, construction, and amusement parks.
The objectives of this program includes the introduction to engineering and architectural principles, exploring math and science concepts, fostering an appreciation for how things work; and for the younger participants, improving fine-motor skills and utilizing multiple learning modalities to engage visual, kinesthetic and auditory learning styles.
We organized with them a special one time session for our kids Ages 2 - 4 for one hour which included 30 minutes of Lego building and 30 minutes of an art activity. Ages 5 and up had a session which included 45 minutes of Lego building , 45 minutes of Art Activity and 30 minutes of Games.

Small kids built a Heart using Lego Bricks and did a painting the heart activity for arts and crafts.

Maimoonah was with the 5 and up group. They had to look at the model on the paper and  follow instructions and build the Heart with lego bricks independently.

Then were asked to identify letter I with different bricks and colours.

They were also asked to make their names with small lego bricks,

As for arts and craft they made paper kite, decorated them and were allowed to go outside and fly the kites they made.

Finally they had few games with Bricks. A memory game where they had to identify which brick was missing and the size and colour of the brick that was missing.

They also had a brick balancing race. Once balancing the brick on the head then on the hands.

Alhamdulillaah it was a nice experience for Maimoonah and the environment was nice as well. The staff were very kind and enthusiastic. And they were very obliging and flexible with our requirements and charges. We thanks Ms. Hayley Walker and her staff for a wonderful session with our kids.

Tarbiyah Girls Club - Class 6

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Alhamdulillaah we have been able to cover a lot of topics at the Tarbiyah Girls Club within the last few classes.

At Class 6 we continued with Al Waajibaat - The Obligatory Matters, learning about How to Know Your Lord through the Most Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allaah".

So we taught the girls how people have deviated in this part of the belief and the important principle of the Ahlus Sunnah on the Names and Attributes of Allaah.

They were also asked to look at the Qur'aan and write some Names of Allaah with its meanings.

As for tahaarah we continued with Hadeeth 7 on Umdatul Ahkaam, Book of Tahaarah. The Hadeeth was about the description of the Wudoo of the Messenger of Allaah sallaahu alaihiwasallam according to Uthmaan bin Affaan radhiyallaahu anhu. We learnt the many benefits of this hadeeth especially the way of the sahaabah in teaching the sunnah.

The discussion of Adab Al Mufrad was indeed interesting as always, since this time we learnt the Athaar (narration of the salaf) on being kind and dutiful to parents even if the parents treat you badly. I presume the girls were taken aback with this command, but it was good to make them understand that their duty to their parents by Allaah remains the same even if they are ill treated. Alhamdulillaah.

We hope to have a scrapbook made at the end of the Level One course which would include all what we have done throughout the course. We wanted all the kids to contribute to this scrapbook and they were interested to know what they should do. So at this class we had a small scrapbooking session for them to know what we expect from them to do at home for each week and bring them to us. So the girls did some artwork to indicate what we did at our first lesson.

Nature Challenge - March 2014 & Keep it Green Family Day

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
The topic for the month of March - Nature Challenge conducted by Tasawory (Qatar Museum Authority) was Wild Animals of Qatar. We did not have any books on this so we looked up on the internet and Maimoonah came up with this poem and submitted.

Wild Animals of Qatar

Brown long sand snakes
moves through the sand dunes,
looking for its prey.

Fork Tongue Desert Monitor,
a metre long aggressive lizard,
ready to eat with a bite.

Ethiopian Hedgehog,
hiding in the rocks,
ready to fight a big snake.

Arabian Gazelle,
with a long pair of horns,
shows its thin frame.

A Kangaroo Cat,
comes out in the night,
to throw sand at the enemy.

Nocturnal Fox,
with bat like ears,
roaming the dunes in the dark.

Lonely Sand Cats,
living in the sand caves,
dig deep into the dunes for prey

One day I hope to see them all,
and praise the Lord of all.
With this the Nature Challenge Contest ended. They organized a wonderful Keep it Green Family event at  one of the beautiful parks in Qatar - MIA Park and held some activities for kids. They also handed over the prizes for the winning contestants.

The winning entries were displayed!

At the Family day they had three stations, one was planting a seed and watching it grow. they were asked to decorate their plastic bottle pots and plant a seed, take it home and see it grow.

They were also given a small activity pack at this station by the Quraanic Botanical Gardens - Doha which had details about the trees mentioned in the Qur'aan and some fun matching, finding the difference, finding the way activities and a puzzle.

The next station was doing some crafts using recycled paper and materials and storytelling at the Mangroves.

The final station had a sensory activity. Exploring the under water shore animals. There was a sand box in which some sea creatures were buried under the sand and the kids were asked to find them.

Finally Maimoonah picked up her prize and certificates. Alhamdulillaah, they were very well thoughtfully chosen valuable gifts for these winning entries, Baarakallaah Feeha

Winning Poetry Entries

The Gift pack had a set to plant seeds and watch them grow.

A Junior snorkeling set!

A beautiful huge kite!

And the most valuable of all I guess a set of Qatar Nature Explorers Encyclopedia. They are so wonderful!

We thank the Qatar Museum Authority and Ms. Angela Ruggles for such a wonderful initiative and providing our kids a great opportunity to contribute for this. We hope they would continue to have many such challenges and events Inshaa Allaah.

Body Organs, Skeleton and Healthy Diet!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
We completed the study on "Our Body" for this year. Since we already covered the parts of the body and the main organs and their jobs it was mostly revision.

This is the first time she learnt about Skeleton and Bones. We used this lovely book from the Children's Library and learnt the system while remembering the perfect creation of Allaah.

At the QMuslimah Children's Library kids are encouraged to write a Qur'aanic Aayah or a Hadeeth related to each book and paste that as a reminder on the book. This particular book had this aayah written and done by a child who had borrowed the book!

We learnt the bones, joints, the main jobs of a skeleton and basic muscles.

Then she did some worksheets that could be downloaded from here

We also learnt about the inside of the bone and marked them.

To sum up I gave her to fill in the activities on the Junior Science Book 1

Once again we revised all about Food Pyramids, Food Groups and Nutrients. And all about a healthy and balanced diet.

Then she answered some questions.

I told her to present to me a Healthy Food Pyramid and a Unhealthy Food Pyramid. She used toothpicks, painted them and came up with this.

The Library had this book and we learnt about why we sneeze, Shiver, Hiccup and Yawn.

We also remembered the hadeeth about yawning and the etiquettes in Islaam with regard to sneezing and replying the one who sneezes.
