My Teeth Lapbook!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We completed the Teeth Lapbook last week. Maimoonah has been loosing her baby teeth and thought this was the best time to do some learning about teeth.

We used the Homeschoolshare Lapbook Templates, (we changed some of the unislaamic stuff in here) Umm Tafari's Dental and Teeth Unit and part of sister Imaan's Notebooking pages for this.

We used a couple of books from the Children's Library to know more about teeth along with the text book. We used her fallen teeth for the experiments.

We learnt the following

  • Type of Teeth
  • Parts of Teeth
  • Learnt to label the types and parts
  • Baby teeth and Adult Teeth
  • What do each type of teeth do
  • Plaque and Cavity
  • How to keep the teeth clean
  • The Sunnahs of taking care of the teeth
  • Going to the Dentist and what happens there
  • Learnt about Tally chart and a little bit of fraction

Here is how the Lapbook looks.

Strangely though she also wanted to share her Lapbook with the kids at the Children's Library and Quiz them. She made a lot of effort and prepared the Quiz Questions and made a little card for the winner and packed a gift as well. It was so pleasing to see she taking the initiative and going ahead Allaahu Baarik Lahaa, with what she likes to do.

Inheritors of the Prophets - Scrap Book - Umar bin Abdul Azeez

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

This is the knowing our scholars series of lessons that we hope to do through scrapbooking.

Main Resources we are using for this study are the following:

What we hope to cover for each scholar if these details are available Inshaa Allaah.

1. Name of the Scholar
2. Time Period
3. His Parents
4. Place of Birth - Map
5. Childhood - Tarbiyyah
6. Countries he travelled to seek ilm - Route on Map
7  His teachers
8. The books he Studied
9. Trials
10. The Books he authored
11. His Students
12. His Characteristics
13. Death and Place of death - Map

So this is the cover of the Scrapbook.

Explained to her the hadeeth that you see on the cover.

We learnt about scholars and what do they do. We used this poem and  and this one  and pasted on the scrapbook. Discussed about the fact that we are ordered by Allaah to ask those who know and shun ignorance in the dheen of Allaah. And this is where the Ulama are very important.

Umar Bin Abdul Azeez
So we started with the 2nd Century scholars after the Sahabah (as we are already doing another scrapbook on sahabahs any way) and from them we choose Umar bin Abdul Azeez.

We discussed about his character, his justice, how young he was when he memorised the Qur'aan and the fact that he used to fear death and cry even when he was a young child. The interesting fact was that the wolves did not harm the sheep during his rule due to his justice and this was something amazing for Maimoonah that she kept repeating it to everyone. Its so fascinating that we have such wonderful true characters in Islaam where we can continue discussions upon discussions, subhanallaah and indeed talking about them and reading their marvelous God fearing characters and incidents can only be a great influence for the Tarrbiyah of our children.

We read his biography and chose important facts from it. Then with her help I typed on Word and printed them out. Then she pasted them on the scrapbook and decorated.

I have also taught her tracing and she likes the idea. So asked her to trace this map and mark Umar bin Abdul Azeez's birth place, place where he studied, the city of his Khilaafah and the place of death.

Some pictures are not clear Inshaa Allaah will upload the document we did soon so that you can see the contents clearly and those who wish to use it can use with their kids as well. You can download the document we used for the scrapbook here.

So that ends Umar bin Abdul Azeez. Inshaa Allaah we will go on with the next scholar soon.

You can also read more here. Found this after we completed this study.

Uslooth Thalaathah Scrapbook!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

So continuing with our new approach fro Islaamic Studies, we also started a scrapbook for Usooluth Thalaathah. We have been doing Usooluth Thalaathah for the past one year using the resources mentioned here.

Since the scrapbook approach is proving beneficial we started going a little deeper into Usooluth Thalaathah and now learning the Explanation of Shaykh Fawzaan hafidhahullaah. Alhamdulillaah, you can find all the resources for this made so simple over here.

You get the audio of each class explained by Brother Aboo Talhah Daawood Burbank raheemahullaah and transcription for each class and made it more simple you also get the pdf file with Multiple choice Questions and Answers based on this along with footnotes that explain important things.

What we are using is the Questions and Answers Compilation as it makes things very easy and clear. At a glance if you look at it, you may feel its too heavy! But beleive me its not! It has made me get back to studying as well and a very good revision indeed Alhamdulillaah! We are really enjoying this and something that can be continued as well! Learning little, little things is making Maimoonah inquisitive about the dheen of Allaah and I have noticed that she is opening up more with questions.

So far we have covered:
"In the Name of Allaah Most Merciful and The Bestower of Mercy. Know, May Allaah have Mercy upon you. It is obligatory for us to learn four important Matters.
1. Knowledge and Awareness of Allaah, Knowledge and Awareness of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihiwasallam and knowledge and awareness of Islaam upon proofs.

These are the pages for the above:

I used the cover title from here

This page was totally her independent work!

Please note all these pages were not done in one day. We do little at a time accordingly. Maximum 20 minutes per day is spent on this. Also she is unable to write all obviously, so I help her with writing but make her fill in the blanks.

She has memorized the Arabic and the English upto the end of the First Principle, and we read through in Arabic and English every day or sometimes every other day and use the scrapbook to ask questions from each other. When she is in a mood she would highlight the correct answers on the Multiple Choice Questions and Answers Book.

We will first finish doing the scrapbook upto what she has memorized and then go on with the next principles Inshaa Allaah. Will update as and when we finish each parts bi idhnillaah!

This was an initiative by some sisters to provide our kids a Library with checked resources that do not go against the Islaamic moral and values. May Allaah reward the sister in charge with good in this world and the hereafter for taking most of the burden upon herself and for taking this project through. Also May Allaah reward all the other sisters who helped in every single way and the brother who helped us with checking some of the contents of the books. We also sincerely thank the Management of Tawar Compound for accommodating us and extending their support for this noble project.

We are still in need of books. And would love to have them donated for the benefit of the community bi idhnillaah. These reference books are used most of the time by kids and parents especially when we have Book Compiling Projects and other Projects where we teach the kids to link everything back to Islaam.

We are specifically looking for the following: (as you see some of the titles are striked off because from the time this post was put up some generous families have contacted us and offered to donate those books to the Library. Alhamdulillaah. May Allaah make it sadaqah Jaariyah for them. Aameen)
