Agriculture Exhibition!

Alhamdulillaah we got an opportunity to visit the Agriculture Exhibition and Maimoonah enjoyed it so much! It is such rare thing to show kids cultivation, vegetables and etc etc here in the desert unlike in the other part of the world. so this was a wonderful opportunity.

Since she has been watching many things with her father with regard to Agriculture she was pretty familiar with what she saw. We learnt some new techniques used in cultivation, machineries used, Green House, nice landscaping, cultivation of dates and she even got an opportunity to feed some lambs and hold a Falcon!!!

Here are some pics Insha Allaah!

Kindergarten Curriculum Summary - Week 19

Islaamic Studies
  • Seearh - We learnt about the Secret and the Open Call. I made this worksheet and she enjoyed doing this. We covered the reaction of the Quraish to the Open Call and the reasons why the Quraish could not stop the Messenger of Allaah from calling people to Allaah. This worksheet made her think and answer. We discussed many things based on this.

She stuck the stickers on our Time Line

  • Fiqh - Manners of Eating and Drinking. This is something we have done last year but repeating this year is indeed beneficial as the understanding is more. So we read the Darul Kitab Eating and Drinking Book and next week we will continue with the beautiful Unit Study on this by TJ.

English
  • Grammar - We learnt about Yes No replies.

  • Writing and Comprehension - I did not do anything specific this week as there was a lot of writing and comprehension involved in our seerah study!

Science/ Social Studies

Maths
  • MEP  - We did more chapters dealing with greater than and less than.

Arabic
  • Qur'aan Centre - We revised soorah Falaq and did the last activity on it. Alhamdulillaah Maimoonah is catching the Arabic Reading slowly.

  • Writing and Reading - Maimoonah is still finding it a bit difficult to attempt to write in Arabic as she is not confident so just to make it a bit interesting and to give her this exposure am planning on doing some unit studies from TJ as I find them really beneficial. May Allaah reward sister Umm Ibraahim and her kids for all their hard work. Aameen. So this week we chose to study about Colours. We watched the Arabic First Power point on colours. I made her read each word. She did it with my help. Then we used the Unit Study and she wrote colours. We did the activity of looking in the Qur'aan and recording what colours are mentioned in each Aayah. We will continue this next week as well since we could not complete the whole thing this week. Masha Allaah this was a very good way of teaching to read and write and does not make her bored.

  •  Conversation - We revised and also learnt how to ask "What colour is this?" and "Is this Colour green?" in Arabic using the above unit study and TJ powerpoint on Colours.

Maimoonah Learns to Recycle and Reuse!

Continuing with our Kindergarten Curriculum we had to learn about Recycle this week. So these are the resources we used for the study

We really love this Book Zainab and Zakariya Learns to recycle. I was so thankful that I had this book to teach Maimoonah this topic. Maimoonah read the book and I used only this book to explain the whole process. May Allaah reward sis Fehmida for putting out such a book for our kids. Aameen.

So we first learnt how is paper made using this wonderful sequencing cards from our sister Umm An Nu'man. Then I asked Maimoonah to explain to me how paper is made and then paste the cards in order in her book.

We used the Smart Ark Recycle worksheet along with the other two colouring sheets and learnt the definition of Recycling and the items that could be recycled.

She coloured the pictures. I asked her to find some things in the house that could be recycled.

Then used the Muslim Child is Born worksheet and she wrote down the things that could be recycled.

We used some of the resources from sis Umm Tafari's Unit Study and learnt how we could Reduce, recycle, Reuse. May Allaah reward sister Umm Tafari for this beneficial Unit Study! We learnt about what Allaah says to Muslims about not wasting things and looking after His planet. And Maimoonah enjoyed doing these worksheets from the unit. I was pretty pleased as she could do both of the worksheets totally on her own.

We also completed the Smart Start Science Books activities on Recycle and Reuse.

We used You Tube and watched how cans, plastics, and paper are recycled and reused and how compost bin is done. We also watched how paper could be recycled at home and tried it.

The directions for this you can find it at the bottom of the page as dictated by Maimoonah. I actually asked her to tell me the whole process after we did and I wrote on the board and later asked her to copy on her book but she refused to write so I wrote for her.

Here is what we did!

This tells how Maimoonah recycled paper at home!

That was it, and we enjoyed the whole learning session and Maimoonah leant how to recycle along with Zainab and Zakariyah!

People of the Ditch!

Maimoonah is memorizing Soorah Burooj now and wanted to know the meaning. Alhamdulillaah this was such a wonderful learning experience for both of us.

So we read the meaning of the aayah and then I read to her the Tafseer of the Soorah. I had an old kid's magazine and I used that to relate the story to Maimoonah and she could read it too.

Maimoonah was filled with tears from the beginning to the end and subhanallaah such a wonderful way to instil Tawheed upon kids. This was a long discussion and Maimoonah really starting liking this boy she in fact told me "Ummi I love this boy for the sake of Allaah"!

Some points we spoke about were:
  • The Boy's curiosity to learn the truth
  • The Courage of the Boy - He tested the truth by killing a lion
  • The Love he had for Tawheed
  • He was kind and taught the dheen of Allaah wisely to his Mushrik people
  • His Trust in Allaah. He asked only Allaah to save him from the harm of the King
  • He was so brave that he went back to the King after Allaah saved him twice and did not run away.
  • He was ready to give away his life in order to make his people believe in Allaah.
  • It is a miracle of Allaah that the baby spoke and asked the mother not to hesitate.

At the end of the story there were few questions and I asked Maimoonah to give me the answers. And we discussed the answers too. Then I asked her what would she have done if she was there at that time. Alhamdulillaah she said "I would have not disbelieved but jumped into the fire because Allaah would give me Jannah, Ummi like he gave the boy and all those who were put into the Fire, Jannah".

Then I asked her to draw a ditch and fire and write something about the boy. This is what she drew and wrote.
